How to treat diarrhea in children

How to treat diarrhea in children

Diarrhea is a very common disease. Many people do not take diarrhea seriously. Adults may not feel that it is a serious situation, but for children, continuous diarrhea will cause dehydration, which is very harmful to their health and may even threaten their lives. Therefore, parents must deal with their children's diarrhea in time, give them more water, and arrange their children's diet correctly.

Stay hydrated

Children are small but have a very active metabolism. If the diarrhea lasts for a long time or is severe, they can easily become dehydrated. Even adults can easily become dehydrated if they have diarrhea, so the first thing to do is to replenish water while also replenishing salt and electrolytes. A better way is to feed your child more water or rice soup and add a small spoonful of salt. If the child thinks the taste is not good, you can add a little sugar.

Dietary adjustments

Children should take as little medicine as possible. If they are fed like medicine bottles from a young age, one can imagine their resistance when they grow up. Start with your diet and simply prevent diarrhea. Feed less high-nutrition and stimulating foods. Some parents are afraid that their children will have diarrhea and lose nutrition, so they supplement their children with a lot of high-nutrition foods, such as milk, fish, meat, etc. However, they do not realize that doing so will increase the burden on the gastrointestinal tract and make the diarrhea last for a long time.

Avoid the following foods

A detailed introduction to several types of food that babies should avoid during diarrhea: first, irritating food; second, food that easily causes bloating, such as milk, soy products, sweet potatoes, etc.; third, food that promotes intestinal peristalsis and bowel movement, such as bananas, yams, celery, and leeks; fourth, high-fat and high-protein food, such as eggs, animal oils, fried foods, cream products, etc.

Mild medical treatment

First, supplementation of intestinal probiotics. Diarrhea can cause intestinal flora imbalance, leading to the loss of some probiotics in the intestine. Supplementation of probiotics is beneficial to recovery. Secondly, montmorillonite powder is a drug that simply protects the gastrointestinal mucosa and can be used appropriately. One thing to note is to use antibiotics and antidiarrheals with caution.

Zinc supplementation

Why do we need to talk about zinc supplementation separately? Everyone should know the importance of zinc to children. Diarrhea can easily lead to zinc deficiency in the body, which directly affects physical and intellectual development. For infants, it can cause developmental delay, organ dysplasia, intellectual disabilities, etc. Zinc supplementation can also enhance resistance and facilitate recovery.
