What simple methods are most effective for children with nasal congestion?

When a child has a cold, it will cause nasal congestion, and the child is prone to crying at this time. Parents must be more careful and take some simple and effective methods to relieve the child's nasal congestion. For example, you can use a warm towel to apply hot compress to the child's nostrils, regularly clean the child's nasal secretions, or use fresh orange peel to squeeze the juice into the child's nasal cavity, all of which can have a relieving effect.

1. Apply warm and wet towel to the nose:

If the nasal mucosa is congested and swollen due to a cold or other conditions, you can apply a warm, wet towel to the base of the nose, which can provide some relief.

2. Clean nasal secretions regularly:

You can use a nasal aspirator to suck out the mucus from your baby's nose regularly. If you don't have a nasal aspirator, you can also use a thin cotton swab dipped in a little water and insert it into the nostril and gently rotate it to roll up the nasal secretions and drag them out with the cotton swab. Don't use too much force with either method, just be gentle. Using too much force may cause injury to the nasal cavity.

3. Keep clean and hygienic:

In order to reduce allergens in the home, keep the home clean and change bed sheets frequently.

4. Use breast milk to drip into the nose:

If the nasal congestion is caused by blocked secretions, you can drop a drop of breast milk into the baby's nasal cavity and wait for the secretions to soften and then be discharged on their own.

5. Massage the sides of the nose with your hands:

Use warm hands to gently massage both sides of your baby's nose, from top to bottom, from the bridge of the nose to the nose wings. Press both sides of the nose wings for a while. Massaging the acupoints here is very effective in treating nasal congestion.

6. Soak your feet with ginger and garlic slices:

Boil the ginger and garlic slices in boiling water, then add some salt and vinegar to the water. When it reaches a certain temperature, you can soak your baby's feet. When the water gets cold, add more water until the baby's feet are hot and red. Then put on clean socks for the baby and keep him warm for sleep. Be careful not to burn your baby.

7. Absorb more warm and moist air:

If conditions permit, you can use an air humidifier. If you don’t have a humidifier, you can fill the bathroom with steam and steam your baby’s nose when bathing your baby. The moist air can loosen your baby's nasal mucus and help the mucus flow out.

8. Drink more hot water:

Although you can feed your baby some hot water from time to time, even if it's just a small sip, there are so many benefits of drinking more water that I won't list them all here. Babies who are sick or have a cold should especially drink water frequently.
