How to prevent and treat astigmatism in children

How to prevent and treat astigmatism in children

Astigmatism is a relatively common vision disease. If a child has astigmatism, timely treatment and conditioning must be carried out. As long as more prevention is done in normal times, good results can generally be achieved. Children should be allowed to look at the green in the distance more often, and there should be sufficient light when reading. In addition, the time spent looking at mobile phones and computers must be reduced. Develop good eye protection habits.

1. Look at the green in the distance

Children should go out to play more often in the suburbs and look at the green wilderness in the distance. Those who need to wear glasses should be examined by a doctor before getting them. Take the initiative to contact the school and actively cooperate to reduce the occurrence of astigmatism.

2. There should be sufficient light when reading

Children should have sufficient light when reading, preferably from the left rear; they should have the correct reading posture and keep a distance of 30 to 40 cm; they should not read in a shaking car or while lying down. When choosing reading materials, the font should be clear and not too small. Do not read continuously for more than one hour, and take a 5-minute break every 30 minutes. This can effectively prevent the occurrence of astigmatism.

3. Go to an eye hospital for a check-up

Parents should pay close attention and if they find any eye problems in their children, they should take them to an eye hospital for examination. It is best to have the first full eye examination at the age of 3-4 years old, and then have regular eye examinations 1-2 times a year to avoid the occurrence of astigmatism.

4. Develop good hygiene habits

Guide young children to develop good hygiene habits and not touch their eyes with their hands or other items to avoid contracting eye diseases. If they are infected with eye diseases, try to reduce going out.

Astigmatism can only be corrected by wearing glasses. Regular astigmatism can be corrected with a cylindrical lens or a spherical combined cylindrical lens of appropriate degree after retinoscopy. Irregular astigmatism can be corrected by wearing contact lenses. Traditional Chinese medicine has discovered in its original clinical practice that for children whose eyeballs are still developing, traditional Chinese medicine methods and measures such as improving and strengthening eye and corneal microcirculation can be used to promote the development of the cornea in a balanced direction, thereby reducing or eliminating astigmatism.
