What causes children to twitch while sleeping?

Parents should pay more attention to their children's health, especially the quality of their sleep. Some children may have convulsions when they sleep, which may be related to certain diseases, so it is necessary to check the child's body in time. The reasons for children's convulsions are generally due to incomplete development of the nervous system, epilepsy, metabolic abnormalities, etc.

1. Imperfect development of the nervous system

When a newborn is born, all the functions of the body are not fully developed; basically, the nervous system is not fully developed either. As the child grows, such symptoms will gradually improve and decrease after three months. However, if there are obvious convulsion symptoms after 4 to 5 months, it should be taken seriously. If the baby is calcium deficient, it is easy to be frightened. Such symptoms still need to be measured based on trace elements. Scientific and reasonable calcium supplementation can alleviate the baby's convulsion symptoms.

2. Metabolic abnormalities in newborns

Newborns fed with milk have an inappropriate ratio of calcium and phosphorus in milk, which affects their calcium absorption, reduces blood calcium, leads to hypocalcemia, and may cause neonatal convulsions. In addition, conditions such as hyponatremia, galactosemia, vitamin B6 deficiency, hypoglycemia, phenylketonuria and dependence, and certain drug poisoning may also cause convulsions in newborns.

3. It may be epilepsy

Occasional twitching during sleep is a normal phenomenon. Because infancy is a period of development for children, and the development of the nervous system has not kept up, it is easy for the child to have twitching after birth. Prolonged convulsions may also be a symptom of epilepsy. There are many factors that induce epilepsy in infants and young children, such as birth trauma, genetics, etc.
