What is the reason why children urinate red urine?

I believe that many parents would be very scared and nervous when they see their children urinating red urine. If your baby's urine is red, it may be hematuria, which means that the number of red blood cells in the urine exceeds the normal value. There is also a situation where the urine is too red due to the excretion of uric acid in the body. Parents are advised to go to a regular hospital for examination of the specific cause of the disease.

1. Hematuria

If your baby's urine is red, it could be blood in the urine. Hematuria refers to the presence of more red blood cells than normal in the urine. Clinically, true hematuria refers to the presence of red blood cells in the urine. Depending on the amount of red blood cells and the changes in urine acidity and alkalinity, it can produce red or brown urine visible to the naked eye. If it cannot be seen with the naked eye and can only be detected by a microscope or chemical test paper, it is called "microhematuria". If symptoms of hematuria are found, parents should pay great attention and take the baby to the hospital as soon as possible.

2. Red urine

If your baby's urine is red, it may be hematuria, but it is not necessarily hematuria. When too much urate is excreted in the urine, the urine will be pink. The urate in the urine of a newborn can make the diaper red. The causes of red urine are:

(1) Eat foods containing ANTHOCYNINS, such as beets, strawberry berries (beets, tomatoes, grapes, etc.).

(2) Consuming foods containing the artificial color PHODAMINEB (cakes, beverages, juices).

(3) When certain special laxatives contain PHENOLPHTHALEIN, pseudohematuria may occur after use.

(4) Caused by drugs: such as treatment of tuberculosis or certain urinary tract antibiotics.

(5) Infection with certain pathogens in infants.

(6) Large amounts of urate deposits cause pink crystals to appear in the baby’s diapers.

(7) Certain hemolytic diseases (such as G6PD deficiency, commonly known as favism) or massive muscle damage may also cause hemoglobinuria.

3. Disease factors

When a baby has a urinary tract infection or congenital urinary tract abnormality, hematuria is mostly caused by glomerulitis.
