Why can't children speak clearly?

When children are about 2 years old, they can speak some incoherent words. Some parents find that their children cannot speak clearly, but they do not take it seriously at first, thinking that it will get better when the children grow up. Many children still have inaccurate pronunciation and unclear articulation when they grow up. What is the reason why children speak unclearly? Below are some reasons why children may not speak clearly. You can learn about them.

As the peak period of language development, normal three-year-old children actually have no problem with pronunciation, but there may be some deficiencies. Grammar is in a stage of rapid development, and they are constantly accumulating vocabulary and expressions. There are generally no obvious communication barriers at the age of three. If there are still obvious pronunciation problems, we must find the cause. We recommend a speech examination and pathological analysis to find the cause, because speech problems caused by different reasons may also be different, but some manifestations are not discoverable by ordinary people. A speech examination can accurately determine the cause.

In fact, the reason for unclear speech is mostly due to problems with the structure or function of the vocal organs.

Structural problems such as congenital cleft palate, of course, congenital cleft palate is generally easier to detect, but hidden cleft palate is easier to ignore.

In addition to congenital cleft palate, short frenulum can also be considered a structural problem. Short frenulum will affect the free movement of the tongue and thus affect the normal pronunciation movements. However, there are many other reasons for inaccurate pronunciation. People often think that it is caused by short frenulum without understanding it, so we will encounter many cases of mis-cutting. So what is the real reason?

Among these cases, the most common is that the functional problems of the vocal organs are mistaken for short frenulum. In the research process of speech pathology and language disorders, in fact, functional problems of the vocal organs caused by various reasons are very common. For example, after congenital cleft palate surgery to repair the upper palate structure, inaccurate pronunciation may still exist. This is actually because the function of the repaired vocal organs is different from that of normal children's vocal organs. Therefore, speech correction after congenital cleft palate surgery has become an indispensable part of the entire treatment.

Abnormal function of the vocal organs themselves is also one of the main causes of dysarthria. In addition, certain brain diseases or injuries, intellectual and cognitive disorders, etc. directly or indirectly cause dysfunction of the entire vocal organs, thereby affecting pronunciation.

In addition, hearing impairment may also cause language disorders in children. If severe hearing loss occurs in the early stages of language development, the child will basically be unable to hear and naturally will not be able to learn to speak. Moderate to mild hearing impairment will make it difficult to speak clearly. In fact, even after hearing aids, voice training is still required to obtain accurate pronunciation. This is also caused by functional problems of the pronunciation organs due to long-term lack of pronunciation practice or incorrect pronunciation habits.

No matter what the reason, if unclear speech can be treated and corrected in the early stages, the impact of the language disorder can be limited to its infancy to avoid affecting the child's growth.
