What should I do if my child has swollen tonsils?

Enlarged tonsils is a common clinical disease, generally known as tonsillitis. Many children have a very high chance of suffering from tonsillitis. Swollen tonsils can affect children's breathing, so treatment must be timely. Tonsillitis is somewhat contagious, and some children are prone to repeated infections. Treatment should also be based on the condition and the right medicine should be used. There are many ways to treat enlarged tonsils. So what should we do if children have enlarged tonsils?

1. Pecking therapy (surgical treatment, pecking therapy)

This is a new type of TCM surgical treatment that has been successfully developed by combining TCM theory with modern medicine. The advantage is that the baby does not need general anesthesia and avoids the pain of surgery. It is recommended that parents choose to find a professional TCM pediatrician to perform the treatment. The principle of pecking therapy is to use a special surgical scimitar or a sterilized three-edged needle to make pecking movements on the tonsils, 4-5 times on each side, preferably accompanied by a small amount of bleeding. Once every 2-3 days, 5 times as a course of treatment. Early pecking can increase the likelihood of your baby's tonsils becoming smaller.

2. Acupoint massage (massage therapy, acupoint massage)

You can massage the baby's Tiantu point, Lianquan point, and Hegu point. Parents can massage their babies more often on the above-mentioned acupoints, which can also relieve the symptoms of enlarged tonsils in babies.

Tiantu point: located on the human neck, on the anterior midline, in the center of the suprasternal fossa. Hegu point: we talked about it last time. It is located at the base of the thumb. We can find it using a simple method. Place the transverse line of the thumb joint of one hand on the webbing edge between the thumb and index finger of the other hand. The point is under the tip of the thumb.

3. Others

(1) If a child's tonsils are severely swollen, intravenous infusion can be used for treatment. The drugs used are anti-inflammatory drugs and glucose water, which can effectively kill bacteria and reduce inflammation. If the tonsils recur several times a year, they can be surgically removed when the child reaches a certain age.

(2) Chinese patent medicine takes a long time to take effect. If the patient's condition is serious, he or she must use Western anti-inflammatory drugs for treatment. For example, amoxicillin granules or cephalexin granules can effectively treat symptoms such as sore throat, hoarseness, etc. Western medicine should not be taken for a long time. Generally, if there is no improvement after taking it for about a week, you should go to the hospital for another check-up.
