Why does a newborn baby keep sleeping and not eating?

Newborns usually sleep for about 20 hours, because newborns spend most of their time sleeping, but many parents don’t know whether to wake up the baby to feed during the baby’s sleep. In fact, during this period, you can wake the baby up to feed during the day, but don’t wake the baby up at night, otherwise the baby will not be able to sleep all night.

Measure the body temperature first to see if it is normal. Only the baby himself knows how long it is appropriate for the baby to sleep. As long as the baby is full and the environment is comfortable, he will naturally sleep soundly. There is no reason for him not to sleep. As long as your baby's sleep time is not too outrageous, he eats well, and grows and develops normally, then you don't need to worry about how long he sleeps. About 12 hours of sleep is normal for a 10-month-old baby. Of course, sometimes the child's sleep time will slightly exceed this standard. This may be because he is too tired the day before or has played too excitedly, but it will be corrected quickly. Guidance: If your child often sleeps too much, you should consider whether he or she is sick.

Clinically, this phenomenon of excessive sleep is called hypersomnia, which mostly refers to the state of falling asleep beyond the normal sleep time, and may be one of the symptoms of a certain disease. There are many diseases that can cause sleepiness in babies. For example, most babies who have a cold and fever are sleepy. Once the fever subsides, their energy will be restored and their sleep will return to normal. This is normal and is a process of self-adjustment in the baby's body. Therefore, more sleep is beneficial to the body's recovery.

Drowsiness may also occur after taking cold or allergy medicines. This is a side effect of the medicine and usually disappears after stopping the medicine. However, if your baby is found to be drowsy in areas where viral encephalitis or Japanese encephalitis is prevalent, and is also vomiting, refusing to eat, and having a high fever, you must pay attention.
