What are the early symptoms of sepsis in children?

Sepsis in children can cause great harm to their health, so it must be discovered in time and treatment measures must be taken in a timely manner. Patients will experience vomiting blood, bloody stools, or shock, sometimes accompanied by jaundice, and cellulitis may be visible on the skin.

① Jaundice is common. Jaundice worsens during physiological jaundice or reappears after disappearance, often accompanied by hepatomegaly. In severe cases, kernicterus may occur.

② Skin manifestations: Cellulitis, abscesses, petechiae, erythema, etc. can sometimes be seen. Violet skin lesions with necrosis in the center are often caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection. In severe cases, there is a tendency to bleed, such as pinhole bleeding after blood drawing, hematemesis, blood in the stool, and pulmonary hemorrhage.

③Shock symptoms: Severely ill children may have tachycardia, arrhythmia and poor peripheral circulation perfusion, thin and rapid pulse, marbled skin, oliguria or anuria, hypotension, and the presence of scleroderma is a bad omen;

④Others: Gastrointestinal dysfunction, anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal distension, severe cases may cause toxic intestinal paralysis, respiratory distress manifested as shortness of breath, cyanosis, irregular breathing or apnea;

⑤It is easy to be combined with meningitis, osteomyelitis, suppurative arthritis and deep abscesses, etc.

In addition, parents should know that sepsis refers to a serious systemic infection caused by bacteria entering the blood circulation, growing and multiplying therein, and producing toxins. The clinical manifestations include fever (generally high fever, which may be accompanied by chills), severe toxic blood symptoms (fatigue, weakness, poor appetite, weakness, anemia, etc.), skin rash with petechiae, hepatosplenomegaly, and increased white blood cell count.

Therefore, I hope everyone can learn more about the symptoms of sepsis, so that we can accurately judge whether a child has sepsis, and discover it in time and send it to the hospital for treatment, which can effectively avoid serious consequences.
