Symptoms and treatment methods of baby liver ascites

Ascites is a common liver disease that can occur in people of all ages. Babies may also have ascites. The symptoms of ascites in babies are not much different from those in adults. Children may have symptoms such as abdominal distension, which need to be treated.

1. The onset of the disease is insidious, and there may be a history of neonatal hepatitis, infectious hepatitis or Wilson's disease. Symptoms include fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal distension, irregular diarrhea, weight loss, etc. Physical signs include spider nevi, liver palms, splenomegaly, varicose veins of the abdominal wall, ascites, etc. The liver is slightly larger in the early stage and shrinks in the late stage. Laboratory examination showed normal or decreased serum total protein, decreased albumin, and increased globulin. Prothrombin time may be prolonged. Patients with portal hypertension have decreased white blood cell count and thrombocytopenia.

2. Patients with ascites should pay attention to some basic treatments, including bed rest and dietary therapy. If there is water accumulation in the body, it indicates the severity of the disease. Generally speaking, no matter what kind of disease it is, as long as there is water accumulation in the abdomen, it should not be ignored.

3. Bed rest is helpful for the recovery of liver function and is conducive to the disappearance of edema. First, bed rest can increase blood flow to the liver to reduce the metabolic load of the liver. Secondly, bed rest can increase renal blood flow, help improve renal perfusion, and help reduce edema.

4. Dietary treatment is essential for patients with ascites. Patients should be given rich nutrition and sufficient heat and calories. For patients with ascites, the main supplement should be carbohydrates and some fat foods. Specific food therapy should be consulted with an authoritative doctor.
