How to treat language delay in a 2-year-old baby?

Two-year-old babies have delayed language development, which is usually manifested in various behaviors such as body or language. That is, during the language development period, they cannot speak, cannot chat with others, and cannot express their ideas through body language or language.

1. The training of chewing ability should keep up with the pace of the child's growth, and the "difficulty" of complementary food should be increased step by step.

For example, when a child is seven or eight months old, he or she mainly relies on the tongue to crush food, and the paste food can be gradually transitioned to more cooked porridge and noodles. Semi-solid foods that are relatively soft but require biting and chewing can be added after the baby is one year old and his teeth gradually grow out, such as rice, buns, wontons, etc.

2. During the child's language development period, even if he cannot speak yet, you should interact and chat with him more. To establish an emotional connection with children, body language, eye contact, and verbal expression are all important. Even though he can't speak yet, he can keenly feel what you say to him and the emotions conveyed in your language. Look into his eyes, speak slowly, and use a gentle and slightly exaggerated tone and intonation. This will easily attract his attention, and he will be more interested in imitating what you say.

3. Don’t express for him, let the child speak out himself.

Some children point to something with their fingers, or simply say a word such as "water" or "rice". Parents immediately understand what they mean and give them water or rice. Then the children habitually express their wishes in a simple way. So, don’t say “Do you want to drink some water?” or “Do you want to eat?” etc. for him, encourage him to express his complete thoughts himself.

4. If your child doesn’t like to talk, you can play some nursery rhymes and children’s songs for him on TV or computer.

The rich pictures can easily attract his attention, the rhythm can easily bring him into it, and the catchy lyrics make it easy for him to imitate. If the child can follow along, you can encourage him in time by hugging or smiling.

5. Provide children with a free and relaxed speaking environment.

If he still doesn't speak clearly, don't correct him right away. The purpose is to encourage him to speak out first, don't force him to speak or let him imitate others.
