Can you pinch a baby's nose?

In life, some mothers hope that their baby’s nose is straighter after they are born, so they pinch their baby’s nose with their hands, thinking that this can help the nose bridge become straighter. So is this method okay?

1. Pinching the bridge of the nose can cause otitis media

As we all know, the five senses are interconnected. The human Eustachian tube is relatively short, thick and straight. If parents often pinch their baby's nose bridge, the secretions in the baby's nasal cavity will enter the ear and be infected by bacteria. The child will be more likely to suffer from otitis media and become more uncomfortable.

2. Pinching the nose bridge will affect the baby's breathing

The bridge of an adult's nose is made of cartilage, and the bridge of a young child's nose is even softer. However, there are numerous blood vessels in the nasal cavity. If parents often pinch their children's nose bridge, the child's nasal cavity will become congested, which will in turn damage the child's nasal mucosa. The baby's nasal defense ability will decrease. Over time, the child will not only have difficulty breathing, but will also suffer from respiratory tract infections, which is very harmful.

3. Pinching the bridge of the nose will make children develop bad habits

Although babies' physical development is not as good as that of normal people, their vision is not fully developed. However, when parents pinch their children's nose bridge, the baby will feel like something is attacking him or her, and the child will instinctively look at the adult's hand or push the adult's hand away with his or her hand. Over time, the baby will develop a bad habit of scratching or squinting his eyes, which is not conducive to the baby's growth.
