What to do if your 3 month old baby is constipated

We all know that constipation is a very common symptom for babies, especially for some babies who eat milk powder. They are most likely to suffer from constipation. For babies who are three months old, they usually only eat breast milk and do not eat complementary foods. If you do not eat complementary foods, you usually drink less water, so babies are particularly prone to constipation at this time. Baby constipation is likely to make the baby feel uncomfortable. So what should I do if my three-month-old baby is constipated?

Constipation can be said to be the most common symptom in children. Don't panic. Mothers do have a great influence on their babies, so it is necessary to control their diet. Breastfeeding is generally 2 to 4 times a day, while artificial feeding is mostly 1 to 2 times a day. Compared with breastfeeding, artificial feeding is more likely to cause constipation. If the child is young (baby under 10 months old) and the mother is able, it is best to ensure breastfeeding as much as possible.

For children with constipation, massage can be used: starting from the stomach, massage the lower abdomen along the intestines, first right and then left; or massage the anus to stimulate and promote defecation. In short, constipation is a very common phenomenon in children, and some of it is only temporary. As long as it does not affect the appetite, there is no feces accumulation in the body, and there is no abdominal pain, swelling or discomfort, parents do not need to be overly nervous.

When spoon feeding, please try not to use a metal spoon that is too large. A cold and hard spoon can easily cause damage to a child's delicate oral cavity. In severe cases, it can cause the baby to distrust his parents. It is not advisable to squeeze breast milk into a bottle, as it is unhygienic! You can try to pour delicious juice or something your baby likes into the bottle to feed it, which may be easier for your baby to accept.

There are two situations when the baby does not defecate for a few days:

1. Although the baby may not have a bowel movement for a few days, it can be considered normal if the stool is soft, normal in color, and painless.

2. Constipated babies have dry and hard stools that are difficult to pass. They also have a decreased appetite, abdominal distension, and fecal lumps can be felt in the lower left abdomen. You can judge based on your baby's specific situation.

Nursing attention:

1. Add enough boiled water to your baby. Add about 60 ml of boiled water between two feedings.

2. If the baby is still breastfeeding, the mother should not eat too cold, too hard, or too irritating food, and should not eat too much food high in protein and fat.

3. Massage your abdomen in a clockwise direction between feedings to promote gastrointestinal motility and help defecation. Do this 2-3 times a day.

4. When the baby is defecating, you can put some hot water in the basin and use the steam from the hot water to fumigate the baby's butt to promote defecation.
