How to guide children to read?

Reading is of great help to children, so it is very important for parents to cultivate good reading habits in their children from an early age. After all, this period is the golden stage of children's growth and development. So how to guide children to read!

1. Read together as a family.

If you want your children to fall in love with reading from an early age and regard reading as a way of life, the most important thing is to create a reading atmosphere in the family. Fu Chunsheng, director of the China Science and Technology Bo'ai Institute of Psychological Medicine, told reporters that the shaping of children's personality and the cultivation of their behavioral habits are all completed through imitation, identification and games. Their language comprehension ability is poor, but their imitation ability is strong. It is often difficult to cultivate their interest in reading through preaching. It is best for parents to set a good example. If parents love reading and set aside a certain amount of reading time every day, their children will agree with reading as a lifestyle and will naturally be influenced by it over time and fall in love with reading.

2. Parents should read more to their children.

In the early stages of children developing reading habits, parents reading with them can greatly stimulate their enthusiasm for reading. For children, their parents' voices and physical contact are the most memorable. Parents may wish to integrate these elements into the act of reading. When the child is interested, parents can take him to their side and appreciate the pictures and stories in the book together with emotion. This can greatly enhance the child's interest in reading. It should be noted that it is best not to point and read before the child is 3 years old, that is, pointing to the words and reading them word by word, as that will affect the child's concentration. It is better to wait until your child starts to be interested in words and likes to ask questions before pointing and reading. Moreover, it is best not to read when parents or children are in a bad mood, because bad mood may leave a negative impression on children about reading. Also, don't leave all reading tasks to the "storytelling machine", as that will result in the loss of a lot of precious parent-child time.

3. Learn to share and communicate.

Fu Chunsheng said that learning to share and communicate the contents of books can double the joy of reading. Therefore, we should not only let children read books, but also share and communicate the contents of the books with them. The process of sharing not only allows knowledge to be spread for the second time, but also reflects self-worth. Children can gain recognition from others while sharing, and their enthusiasm for reading will naturally increase. When children are young, parents can read their favorite books with their children, and discuss the details in the books or evaluate the protagonists together; when children are older, they can be encouraged to participate in more reading clubs and learn to share their reading experiences with others.

4. Choose books that your child likes to read.

For adult reading, facing the vast ocean of books, "reading good books" is very important. But for children, developing an interest in reading and cultivating reading habits comes first. Therefore, when buying books, it is best to choose books that children like to read, and not to rank the books according to the parents' preferences. When choosing a picture book, the pictures should be large, preferably one picture per page, and the pictures should be vivid and the layout should be clear; the story should be logical, the plot should be simple, and the language should be rhythmic. In addition, parents do not need to pay too much attention to age-specific books. Every child is different and their development stages are different, so there is no need to be overly rigid.
