What causes babies to sleep less?

Babies sleep very long periods of time, but many parents also face the problem of their babies not getting enough sleep. Many parents don’t know why their babies don’t sleep enough. It may be caused by hunger, but it may also be related to the child’s physical condition.

1. Hunger

It is more common in newborns and infants under three months old. This requires breastfeeding or milk feeding to solve the problem. This factor can be eliminated for older babies if they are well fed before going to bed.

In dry weather, your baby may be thirsty at night, and giving him some water can help calm him down.

2. Calcium deficiency

Calcium deficiency is one of the main factors that cause restless sleep in babies, and most people will consider it. Calcium deficiency and low blood calcium levels increase the excitability of the brain's autonomic nerves, causing infants to wake up at night, have night terrors, become restless at night, and sleep poorly. The solution is to give babies calcium and vitamin D supplements and get more sun exposure.

3. Too hot

Nowadays, most baby clothes are warmer. In fact, it doesn’t matter if the baby is a little cool. Being too hot will make him uncomfortable and prone to illness. If the room temperature is quite high and the baby is wearing a sleeping bag and covered with a small quilt, the baby's own heat dissipation ability is poor and he will feel hot and wake up. When the baby is sleeping, the indoor air should be fresh, the room temperature should be moderate, and the bedding should be soft and of appropriate thickness. The baby should be dressed in loose, soft clothes so that the baby can relax his whole body and sleep comfortably.

4. Abdominal bloating

This condition occurs in infants under 1 year old. If a baby eats too much before going to bed or does not burp after drinking milk, he or she will wake up with abdominal distension. Older babies may have eaten something difficult to digest within a few hours before bedtime. The problem can be solved by paying attention to massage, exhausting gas and adjusting diet. Babies with indigestion can be treated with some Chinese medicine.

5. Wet urine, need to urinate

Babies may also feel uncomfortable if their diapers are too wet or too tight. Some babies are reluctant to pee in their diapers when they want to pee, and they toss and turn restlessly. Observe carefully and treat the problem accordingly and the problem will be solved.
