Early symptoms of polio, be alert after reading these!

When a child has mild symptoms such as fever, many inexperienced parents will not be alert and think that nothing serious will happen to the child. However, this may be an early symptom of polio, so the child should be sent for examination as soon as possible.

1. The symptoms of prodromal polio include fever, fatigue, general discomfort, upper respiratory tract infection and gastroenteritis, which last for 1 to 4 days.

2. In the early stage of paralysis, fever may occur again 1 to 6 days after the disappearance of the prodromal symptoms (bimodal fever). In this stage, the patient may enter directly from the prodromal stage, or develop the disease directly in this stage, with symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, stiff neck, positive Klinefelter's sign, etc. At the same time, the symptoms of polio often include muscle pain all over the body, sweating, etc.

3. The paralysis period is usually 2 to 7 days. Paralysis occurs when the body temperature begins to drop and gradually worsens until the body temperature returns to normal. There are several types of paralysis: ① Spinal type: the most common, presenting as asymmetric flaccid paralysis, mostly affecting the lower limbs, followed by the upper limbs. The neck and back muscles, diaphragm, and intercostal muscles may also be paralyzed. The proximal large muscle groups are paralyzed earlier and more severely than the distal small muscle groups, and sensation is mostly unaffected. These are common symptoms of polio.

4. Paralysis begins with fever, headache, diarrhea, vomiting and general discomfort. Parents often think it is a cold or indigestion. The fever subsided after 1-4 days, but after a few days, it came back again and was higher than the first time. The prominent symptoms are hyperesthesia-like pain, not allowing others to touch, accompanied by flushing, headache, sore throat, vomiting, sweating, followed by drowsiness and other symptoms. Paralysis occurs after 3-7 days, most commonly in the lower limbs. If the paralysis does not progress further, it can gradually recover one week after it appears.
