What to do if your child has slurred speech? Here are three easy training methods to teach you

Training oral muscles, singing songs, and playing sound games are three methods that can effectively alleviate children's slurred speech. If you have children with slurred speech at home, you might as well give it a try.

1. Train your oral muscles

● Let your child try solid food such as carrots or grapes. Parents do not need to deliberately cook the food into a paste or make it too soft. Keep the food at an appropriate hardness to strengthen the child's oral muscle development when chewing;

● Put jam or chocolate paste on the child's lips to let the child learn to lick his lips with his tongue;

● Play blowing games with your children, such as blowing soap bubbles, blowing feathers, etc., to train the use of airflow.

2. Singing Boy

●Sing sentences following the music. The focus is on training children's speaking fluency, but it does not require accurate pronunciation of individual words.

3. Sound Game

● When speaking, use single words or repeated words to represent objects or people, such as "砵砵" to represent a car, etc., and use a high, low, fast, and slow speaking rhythm to encourage children to follow the repeated words and tone.

Don't force your child to pronounce correctly.

It is common for two-year-old children to have inaccurate pronunciation, whether speaking Cantonese, Mandarin or English. Parents should pay more attention to their children's understanding and response to what is being said, and whether they can express their ideas fluently.

For example, when parents tell their child that they are going out to the street, and the child automatically puts on his shoes, it means that he understands what the parents are saying and uses actions instead of words.

Parents should not deliberately force their children to pronounce correctly, which will cause them to lose the desire and confidence to express themselves.
