What are the reasons for children's bedwetting? Which type does your child belong to?

Children often wet the bed, which worries parents. They need to understand the reasons why children wet the bed. Many times, children wet the bed due to bad urination habits and drinking too much water before going to bed. Parents should help their children correct them in time and not blame them blindly.

1. Developmental delay can cause bedwetting

Delayed development of the cerebral cortex, inability to inhibit the spinal urination center, delayed maturation of the neural function that controls urination, and slow development of the bladder's nighttime control ability can also cause children to wet the bed; symptoms may improve with age.

2. Improper urination habit training

Parents do not provide timely urination training for their children; for example, they still use diapers after the age of 3 and fail to let their children develop the habit of controlling their urination; they do not tell their children to urinate in time before going to bed; they let their children sit on the potty and urinate while playing, etc. Over time, it is not easy for children to associate urination with the potty and form a reflex.

3. Deep sleep leads to bedwetting

Children who wet the bed at night often sleep too deeply to wake up even when they feel the urge to urinate. When there is urine in the bladder, the urge to urinate cannot be conveyed to the brain in time during sleep, and the brain cannot issue a command to wake up in time. Therefore, some children often dream of looking for a toilet before wetting the bed at night. Children who are too tired and overly excited from playing during the day will fall into a deep sleep at night and suffer from enuresis.

4. Bad living habits lead to bedwetting

Drinking too much water before going to bed, eating too many diuretic fruits and vegetables during the day, being unwilling to get up to urinate at night, parents fearing that their children will catch a cold in winter and allowing their children to wet the bed, etc., will lead to enuresis over time. In addition, sudden changes in the environment and climate, such as cold weather and insufficient warmth at night, can cause children to wet the bed.

5. Strong mental stimulation , such as sudden separation from parents, going to daycare, being frightened, anxious, nervous, watching intense TV before going to bed, etc., can all cause enuresis in children.

6. Disease causes bedwetting

Urinary tract infection, kidney disease, local inflammation of the urethra, incomplete brain development, small bladder capacity, spinal cord injury, epilepsy, etc. may all cause nocturnal enuresis in children. However, the proportion of enuresis caused by disease is relatively small.
