How to deal with a baby's fever of 40.5

It is rare for a baby to have a fever of 40.5 degrees. It is a high fever. Of course, it will cause certain harm to the baby's physical and mental health. Some may even have convulsions. Such situations must be dealt with in a timely manner. But how to deal with such a situation better? This is a question that all parents are very concerned about. Let's take a detailed look at it together.

If the axillary temperature exceeds 37.4℃, it is considered a fever. In most cases, fever is a protective response of the body to fight invading pathogens, and it is a process in which the human body mobilizes the immune system to fight infection. An abnormal increase in body temperature is not necessarily proportional to the severity of the disease, but excessive fever or prolonged fever can affect the body's various regulatory functions, thus affecting the child's physical health. Therefore, for children confirmed to have a fever, the cause should be actively identified and treated accordingly.

How to deal with a baby's fever of 40.5: For babies with persistent high fever, appropriate cooling measures are needed to avoid brain cell damage and possible adverse effects due to excessively high body temperature. It is especially necessary to take cooling measures in a timely manner for children with a history of febrile convulsions and children with high fever and extreme irritability. The following situations in children with fever require vigilance or emergency treatment: febrile convulsions; fever in babies under 3 months old; fever lasting more than 5 days; fever >40℃ and cannot be effectively reduced within 2 hours after taking medicine; obvious changes in children's behavior: such as not liking to play, loss of appetite, rarely talking, indifference to surrounding things or sudden special behavior that has never appeared before; less urine, indicating dehydration, such as babies wet <3 diapers a day, or older children have not urinated for 8 to 12 hours. You can also cool down physically by taking a warm water bath, putting ice cubes in a watertight plastic bag and wrapping it with a dry towel to apply to your head and neck, and you can also apply it to the armpits and groin. It is not recommended to use cold water or alcohol for bathing.

When your baby has a fever of 40.5 degrees, it is best to take the above measures in time to deal with it. This can generally delay the baby's condition in time. Of course, if these methods are ineffective, you should take your baby to a regular hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time. Only in this way can we ensure that the baby's physical and mental health is not harmed.
