What to do if children have vulvar itching

It is the common wish of all parents that their children grow up healthily, but children in childhood have weaker resistance and are easily susceptible to bacterial infections. Vulvar itching in children is a common symptom in childhood, which is often caused by vulvitis, so you should not be too careless. Once this symptom occurs, you should first go to the hospital for medical treatment. In addition, because children are young, they often cannot express their physical discomfort, so parents should always pay attention to their children's conditions, observe carefully to ensure timely discovery and treatment, and not delay the treatment. So how should we treat vulvar itching in children?

Vulvitis in children is the most common gynecological disease in female infants and young children. Infants and young children have immature ovarian function and lack estrogen; the vulva is poorly developed, the vaginal mucosa is thin, and the resistance of the vaginal epithelium is low; the vagina is close to the anus and is extremely susceptible to bacterial infection, making vulvovaginitis more likely to occur. It is common in girls under 5 years old. The pathogen can be transmitted through the clothing, bathtub, hands, etc. of sick mothers, childcare workers or kindergarten children. Some children often cry and become restless due to pain or itching in the vulva. This is because a large amount of secretions stimulate the vulva and cause pain and itching, making the children cry, become irritable or scratch their vulva with their hands. The main symptom is increased vaginal discharge, which is purulent. Clinically, most mothers seek medical attention after discovering purulent discharge on their infants' underwear. Some children also have urinary tract infections, with symptoms such as urgency, frequency and pain when urinating. Some people have adhesions of the labia minora, and the urine flow becomes thinner or splits during urination.

The itching areas of female vulva are mostly located in the clitoris and labia minora, and may also affect the labia majora, perineum and even perianal skin lesions. It is often paroxysmal or continuous, and usually worsens at night. Unexplained vulvar itching usually only occurs in women of childbearing age or postmenopausal women, and often affects the entire vulva, but may also be limited to a certain part or one side of the vulva. Although the itching is very severe and even unbearable, the local skin and mucous membranes appear normal, or there are only scratches due to excessive scratching.

The main symptoms are local nodules on the vulva, often accompanied by pain and itching. Most patients first have long-term vulvar itching, and after many years

Local papules, nodules or small ulcers appear and do not heal for a long time. Some patients also have vulvar leukoplakia.
