Why does my baby have a fever?

The thing that many parents with babies worry about most is the baby's fever. This situation is also the most common thing in the baby's growth process. We are usually very worried when the baby has a fever, because we are afraid that the baby's fever is bad for the baby's health. When the baby has a fever, we must pay attention to it. So why does the baby have a fever? Let’s learn more about it through the following introduction.

The human body has a temperature regulation center in the hypothalamus, which acts like the temperature setting of an air conditioner. Normally, the temperature set for infants and young children is slightly higher than that for adults. The rectal temperature of infants and young children is approximately 37.5°C, with a fluctuation of about 1°C. The oral temperature of adults and older children is approximately 36.8℃, with a fluctuation of 0.5℃.

For example, when the human body is infected with pathogens, the white blood cells react and produce "pyrogens", which stimulate the body temperature regulation center in the hypothalamus and increase the set temperature. When the set temperature is adjusted to 39°C, the human body increases muscle contraction to produce heat, or reduces sweating to dissipate heat, raising the body temperature to 39°C. So before a fever occurs, you may feel chills and shiver, and then suddenly have a high fever. This phenomenon is particularly obvious when certain bacteria produce toxins.

Many parents have observed that their children tend to have high fevers at night. This is because the water content in infants and young children's bodies is higher than that in adults. Even a slight lack of water will affect heat dissipation and make them prone to fever. When a child is sick, he is in poor spirits and sleeps for a long time. If you don't eat or drink for a long time at night, your body temperature will naturally rise.

Through the above introduction, we know why babies love to have fever. When the baby has a fever, the first thing we should do is to control the child's body temperature. We cannot let the child's fever become more serious. Generally, when the child's temperature is above 38 degrees, we need to cool down, mainly through physical cooling methods.
