Why does my child's knee hurt when he sleeps?

For a family, the child is the apple of the eye. Once something happens, the whole family will be worried, and problems are especially likely to occur for growing children. At this time, some children have knee pain when they sleep, which makes many parents very worried and want to know why their children have knee pain when they sleep.

What we call the kneecap is also commonly known as the patella in medicine. If the knee joint of an adult is often repeatedly stretched, twisted, impacted, and rubbed, it will cause wear and tear damage to the knee joint over time. According to incomplete statistics, among all people with knee pain, whether it is adults or children, nearly 30% of patients suffer from patellar malfunction. We all know that when our knee joints are bent, the force borne by the knee bone surface is 5-7 times our own body weight. When we keep walking or squatting, the long-term and frequent pressure on the knee joints will cause patellar softening, the main manifestation of which is knee pain and swelling. If the disease continues to develop, osteoarthritis will develop.

So, what factors can cause knee pain in children? The causes of knee pain in children are complex and there are many reasons. The more common causes include:

Knee pain in children caused by growth: Many children complain of pain in the lower limb joints or legs when they go to bed at night. Helping the child to pinch and rub the legs will relieve a lot of symptoms. By the next morning, the pain disappears. This is a typical joint pain caused by the child's growth. It is a normal phenomenon that occurs in children's growth. It is medically called growing pains. This is often because the child's bones grow faster, while the tendons and muscles around the bones grow slower, thus causing traction pain.

Knee pain in children caused by hip synovitis: Many children with knee pain experience knee pain because of hip synovitis. Therefore, knee pain in children caused by this disease is also relatively common. The age of the children who become ill is roughly around 3 to 10 years old, and the incidence rate is more common in boys than in girls. Most of the time, it is unilateral. The pain in children of this type lasts for a short time and usually disappears within a few hours.

Knee pain in children caused by avascular necrosis of the femoral head: Some children may have a limp when walking, limited squatting, pain in a certain part of the knee, muscle atrophy, etc. for no apparent reason. It cannot be ruled out that the knee pain in children is caused by avascular necrosis of the femoral head. In addition, a variety of diseases such as tibial tubercle osteochondritis, rheumatic fever, allergic purpura arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fractures, dislocations, etc. may cause knee pain in children.

Parents should not take it lightly if their growing children experience knee pain while sleeping. I didn't know what was going on at first, but now after reading the above content, I have a general understanding of it. There are many causes of this situation. The best thing is for parents to take their children to the hospital for examination so that the cause can be found. If there is no disease, it is best to treat it in time.
