What are the early symptoms of cerebral palsy in children

With the increasing severity of air pollution and the mistakes of pregnant women during pregnancy, more and more children are diagnosed with cerebral palsy. However, even though it is a frequently used term, many friends still confuse it with dementia. Today, the editor will give you a brief introduction to the manifestations of cerebral palsy in children and make a simple distinction so that everyone can correctly understand the medical terms.

Clinically, movement disorders can be divided into involuntary movement type, ataxia type, etc. according to their nature.

Dyskinetic CP

It accounts for about 10%, with hypoxic brain damage and neonatal kernicterus being the main causes. Infants often have hypotonia in the early stages, and then gradually develop extrapyramidal symptoms, such as athetosis or dyskinesia. Children may experience drooling, difficulty swallowing, language disorders, etc. Deep tendon reflexes of the lower limbs were normal or enhanced. There may be persistent primitive reflexes. Intelligence is mostly normal or borderline. About 1/4 of patients have epilepsy. Symptoms caused by kernicterus include athetosis, sensory deafness, and dental enamel hypoplasia.

Ataxia CP

About 10%. In infancy, symptoms include hypotonia, balance disorders, and delayed motor development. By early childhood, signs such as dysmetria and intention tremor may be detected. There are usually no pyramidal tract signs. Mental retardation is not uncommon but is usually not serious.

Through the simple distinction above, everyone can clearly understand the symptoms of early cerebral palsy in children. By being familiar with these symptoms, we can make the correct diagnosis of the child's illness and always give the child the correct rehabilitation treatment. Of course, I also hope that everyone will remind the pregnant friends around you to pay more attention to protecting their bodies so that their babies can be born healthy.
