Can precocious puberty in children be treated?

If we talk about precocious puberty in the past, many people would have never heard of it. But now the incidence of precocious puberty is getting higher and higher, especially in recent years. It is very common. There are patients with precocious puberty visiting hospitals, and most of them are children. If precocious puberty occurs, parents will be very worried, because precocious puberty is likely to cause their children to have developmental problems, and even be shorter than children of the same age.

The treatment of precocious puberty requires close cooperation from parents. Parents should pay attention to their children's growth and development. Once they find any signs of precocious puberty, they should immediately go to a specialist clinic for examination. The treatment of precocious puberty is a long process, and parents need to be patient. Generally, treatment can be stopped when the bone age reaches 12 years old. Stopping the medication too early will cause the disease to recur, and the effect of further medication will be very poor.

For children with mild symptoms, Chinese medicine alone is sufficient for treatment. After the sexual characteristics subside, medication is still needed to consolidate the therapeutic effect. Generally, the medication is stopped at the age of 10. Long-term follow-up is required after stopping the medication. If there is a relapse, the medication should be used again immediately. For children with true precocious puberty with more serious conditions, a combination of Chinese and Western medicine or GnRHa alone is needed. Generally, sexual characteristics will be significantly reduced after 2 to 3 months, but it will take more than one year of medication to significantly improve bone development. For children who are taking progesterone hormone drugs or danazol for a long time, parents should cooperate with doctors to check liver function every 3 to 6 months. If abnormalities are found, the drug should be stopped immediately.

For children with precocious puberty, when their diet lacks calcium, they grow rapidly, and their bone mineral content is low in a bone density test, you can consider taking appropriate calcium supplements under the guidance of a doctor. In addition, parents should properly control the child's diet to avoid overnutrition. Children are encouraged to participate in regular sports such as high jumping, skipping rope, running, swimming, climbing stairs, etc. Exercise helps to increase height and make the medicine more effective.

The treatment goal of CPP is to improve the child's adult height, and attention should also be paid to preventing psychological problems caused by precocious puberty and early menarche. GnRH analogs (GnRHa) are generally used to treat CPP. The sustained-release GnRHa preparations currently available in China for children include triptorelin and leuprorelin acetate. GnRHa can effectively inhibit the secretion of LH, causing the development of gonads to be suspended and the secretion of sex hormones to return to the pre-pubertal state, thereby delaying the growth and fusion of epiphyses, and achieving the goal of extending the growth years and improving the final adult height as much as possible.

The treatment of precocious puberty must require the cooperation of parents and children to be effective, and the treatment of precocious puberty is a very long process, which may take several years. Usually, patients can completely stop treatment after the age of 12, but they cannot stop taking medication too early, otherwise their children's condition will recur and there is no way to completely cure it.
