My almost one week old baby hiccups when he laughs

Newborns sleep the most every day, about sixteen hours a day, and wake up to feed. Therefore, babies in the first three months develop the fastest, and parents must ensure that their children have enough milk to drink. However, why does a baby who is almost one week old hiccup when he laughs? The organs of children at this age are not fully developed, and they are prone to hiccups if they inhale cold air or drink milk too quickly.

Babies hiccup when they laugh because their respiratory systems are not yet perfect. Laughter can sometimes cause respiratory spasms, and in severe cases, they can become breathless. So when teasing your baby, know when to stop, and don't let him laugh if he hiccups. It will get better as he gets older.

Hiccups are a common symptom in infancy. Constant hiccups are caused by diaphragmatic spasms and continuous contraction of the diaphragm. Diaphragmatic movement is controlled by the autonomic nervous system.

One or two months after the birth of a child, the autonomic nerves that regulate the diaphragm are not yet fully developed.

For example, when the baby inhales cold air or sucks milk too quickly, the diaphragm will suddenly contract, causing rapid inhalation and a "hiccup" sound. Once the baby hiccups, you can deal with it as follows:

1. Pick up the baby, pat his back gently, and then feed him some milk or warm water.

2. Pick up the baby and gently scratch the baby's mouth or ear with the index finger of one hand. Generally, the hiccups will disappear naturally when the baby cries. This is because the nerves around the mouth are more sensitive, and scratching can relax the nerves, so the hiccups will disappear.

.3. Pick up the baby and stimulate the soles of the feet to make him cry, which can also stop the sudden contraction of the diaphragm

.4. Do not feed the baby when he is crying hard, to prevent the baby from swallowing a lot of air into the stomach due to eating too quickly, causing hiccups. Paying attention to the temperature of the milk and strengthening the warmth of the abdomen are also measures to prevent the baby from hiccups.
