What causes a slow heartbeat in a child?

Every parent is very worried about the baby's health, so parents will go to the hospital regularly for physical examinations of their babies. The baby's heart is also in a stage of gradually becoming healthy, so the baby's heart beats differently from that of an adult. But the baby's heartbeat should also have a standard. What if after a physical examination of the baby, it is found that the baby's heartbeat is lower than the normal standard?

Textbooks say that a normal heart rate is 60-100 beats per heart, and this refers to sinus rhythm. If the heart rate is less than 60 beats per minute, it is called sinus bradycardia. However, not all sinus bradycardia is a disease.

A normal person's heart rate varies with the body's needs. People with good physical fitness, such as athletes, often have a heart rate below 60 beats per minute when resting. The heart rate of ordinary people will also drop to 30 or 40 beats per minute when sleeping. This is normal because the body does not need the heart to work hard at this time.

In addition, for some patients with coronary heart disease, aortic dissection and heart failure, a heart rate of 55-60 beats per minute is itself one of the treatment goals.

There are two situations in which sinus bradycardia requires treatment: one is sinus bradycardia secondary to other conditions, such as overdose of drugs that slow down the heart rate, hyperkalemia, hypothyroidism, etc.; the other is problems with the sinus node function, which leads to a slower heart rate.

In the first case, the cause needs to be found and corrected. In the second case, you should consider installing a permanent pacemaker. But when does it need to be installed? It depends on the extent of the sinus bradycardia and the severity of the symptoms. Patients with bradycardia have a slow heartbeat, which reduces the amount of blood pumped by the heart, leading to ischemia of the body. They may experience fatigue, dizziness, black spots in front of their eyes, and even fainting. If the symptoms are severe, a pacemaker must be installed.

If the heart rate is lower than 40 beats per minute, syncope has occurred, and electrophysiological examination shows sinus node dysfunction, even if it is not confirmed that the symptoms are related to the slow heartbeat, it is recommended to install a pacemaker. In addition, some patients with bradycardia also have paroxysmal tachycardia, which is called bradycardia-tachycardia syndrome. In order to avoid conflicts in treatment, a pacemaker needs to be installed for "protection".

It is recommended to go to the hospital for a check-up. After all, heart problems can be serious or minor.
