What causes bloodshot eyes in babies?

Bloodshot eyes mean that there are bloodshot eyes in the white part of the eyes. This is a very common phenomenon, but you should pay attention to bloodshot eyes in your baby. Many people don’t know what causes bloodshot eyes in babies. The cause of bloodshot eyes in babies may be due to incorrect posture when drinking milk.

1. Subconjunctival hemorrhage

Subconjunctival hemorrhage is caused by rupture of blood vessels under the bulbar conjunctiva or increased permeability. Because the subconjunctival tissue is loose, it is easy to accumulate into flakes after bleeding. Strictly speaking, subconjunctival hemorrhage is just a symptom, not a real disease, and the exact cause is rarely found. It usually occurs in only one eye and can occur in any age group.

Submembranous bleeding itself is not serious. The key is to find the cause of bleeding and treat the primary disease medically. In the early stage of bleeding, local cold compress can be applied, and hot compress can promote the absorption of bleeding after two days.

2. Wrong posture for drinking milk

An uncomfortable posture when drinking milk may also cause bloodshot eyes, so the baby needs to adopt a comfortable posture when feeding to relieve this situation. It's okay. As long as the discomfort is corrected, the symptoms can be relieved. Therefore, it is not a disease, so no treatment is needed.

3. Other reasons

Bloodshot eyes simply mean the whites of the eyes are red. Many situations can cause this symptom, such as excessive eye fatigue. This symptom usually occurs when the eyes are used for a long time without rest, and it is usually accompanied by a dry feeling. It is recommended to close your eyes and let them rest to relieve this symptom. You can also use some fatigue-relieving eye drops to improve this situation. Another possibility is that there is a problem with the eyes, such as keratitis, scleritis, etc. It is recommended to go to the hospital for a specific examination and use medication under the guidance of a doctor.
