Three month old baby with diarrhea

Three month old baby with diarrhea

It is very common for babies to have diarrhea. Generally, babies will have this phenomenon during their growth process. Especially for three-month-old babies, diarrhea is very common. Parents are usually very anxious at this time and don’t know what to do. If your baby has diarrhea, you must find out the cause in time, whether it is due to cold or improper feeding.

Diarrhea in three-month-old babies is the most common phenomenon in our daily life. Many mothers have encountered such a situation. At the beginning, they have no experience and don’t know what to do. At this time, we must first find the cause of the baby’s diarrhea and treat it according to the cause.

1. Physiological loose stools

Sometimes loose stools are not diarrhea. The gastrointestinal function of normal newborns is not yet fully developed, and the stool characteristics of babies with different feeding methods will also be different. Breastfed babies may defecate up to 7 to 8 times, or even 10 times a day. Their stools are thinner and golden yellow. If the baby is in good spirits and gaining weight normally, parents don't need to worry or go to the hospital. If a bottle-fed baby has loose stools and the frequency increases per day, please take the baby to the hospital for medical treatment immediately. If parents cannot determine whether loose stools are physiological, they should go to the hospital for a doctor's diagnosis.

2. Improper feeding

Sometimes parents feed their babies too concentrated milk powder, or the milk powder is unsuitable, or the milk is too cold, or sometimes they wean their babies when the weather is hot, etc., which can easily cause diarrhea in babies.

Symptoms of diarrhea caused by improper feeding are foamy stools with a sour taste, sometimes mixed with indigestible particles and mucus. Parents should correct improper feeding methods, and if symptoms do not improve, they should go to the hospital for treatment.

3. Milk powder allergy

Babies who are allergic to milk powder protein may also suffer from diarrhea. Non-infectious diarrhea after drinking milk or formula for more than 2 weeks, with stool mixed with mucus and blood, accompanied by skin symptoms such as eczema and urticaria. At this time, the mother should give the baby anti-allergic milk powder according to the doctor's prescription.

4. Cold

Three-month-old babies often have diarrhea symptoms when they have a cold. Therefore, as long as the cold that causes the diarrhea is cured fundamentally, the diarrhea will naturally go away. If parents are worried that their baby may become dehydrated, they can give the baby oral rehydration appropriately.

5. Viral or bacterial infection

Diarrhea in a 3-month-old baby may also be caused by some bacterial or viral infection, especially rotavirus. Rotavirus is the main pathogen of diarrhea in babies in autumn and winter. Diarrhea caused by rotavirus is highly contagious and is accompanied by vomiting and fever. If parents do not handle it in time, dehydration symptoms can easily occur, so parents must pay special attention.

Don’t worry if your three-month-old baby has diarrhea. If you know some causes of diarrhea and methods to treat diarrhea, you will not be so panicked when you encounter such problems in the future. All knowledge is summarized from our experience in daily life. Especially babies are prone to some diseases in daily life, so it is necessary to learn more related knowledge.
