What to do if your child is clingy

What to do if your child is clingy

Children have many different personalities, and many of them develop a clingy character because they are timid and insecure. This kind of personality is not conducive to the child's growth and will affect the child's independence. Therefore, in order to ensure that the child can develop a better personality in the future, parents must take certain methods to change this situation of the child. Here are some solutions to your child’s clinginess!

1. Create opportunities for children to interact with people other than their caregivers

In addition to caregivers, other family members should also have more contact with the child, such as playing games with the child more often, establishing a harmonious parent-child relationship, and letting the child know that this sense of security can be established with other family members besides the mother. When the child is a little older, you can take him out for a walk and let him interact more with people other than family members, especially children of the same age. Let the child learn to interact with others in an unfamiliar environment and improve his adaptability and social skills.

2. Create a relatively safe and stable growth environment

Some children become very sensitive and clingy because they have been frightened or experienced drastic changes in their living environment. Therefore, parents should create a relatively safe and stable environment for their children to grow up in. Do not let children stay alone in a dark or conflicting environment, and do not always say things that scare children, such as "Mom doesn't want you anymore" or "Don't go there, you will be caught by bad guys."

3. Build a trusting relationship with your child

Some parents treat clingy children by either acting like they can't let go and looking back every few steps when they leave, or by lying to their children and then sneaking away. In fact, these are not appropriate. This will make the child think that his mother is going to disappear forever, that his mother no longer likes him or wants him. This feeling of separation will make them feel insecure and cause anxiety. If the mother has to leave temporarily, it is best to tell the child in advance, let the child know, and tell him what the mother is busy with, when the mother will come back to play with the baby, and to fulfill the promise. After coming back, say hello to the baby and tell him that you are back. After a few times, he will feel that you are trustworthy, and not that you are leaving him because you don't love him.

4. Reduce stickiness by diverting attention

Babies are easily attracted to new things. In daily life, you can cultivate more interests and hobbies for them to divert their excessive attention from the attachment figure: such as playing games, drawing, reading picture books, etc.
