Why do children love to drink water?

Many mothers will find that their children have such a situation, that is, they love to drink water too much and always drink water. There are many reasons for this situation. It may be caused by pathological reasons such as uremia, diabetes or problems with the renal tubules. Parents need to pay attention to this situation. Below we will explain in detail why children love to drink water too much.

If it is normal drinking water, there is generally no problem. If it is drinking a lot of water, it may be a sign of a disease, such as diabetes, diabetes insipidus, renal tubular acidosis, etc. It is recommended to take your child to the hospital for examination and then receive targeted treatment.

During the feeding process, many babies have a relatively small demand for water in the first 6 months or so because they are provided with a large amount of breast milk in the early stages. However, as the baby's body continues to grow and the nutritional value of breast milk gradually decreases, the baby needs to be fed water and supplemented with complementary foods regularly.

Some babies prefer to drink water in normal times. There are many reasons why they love drinking water, and parents must not take it lightly. Some dehydration is caused by body needs, and some are due to the influence of certain diseases, which causes babies to drink a lot of water continuously.

Things to note when your baby drinks water:

1. As long as the baby who is exclusively breastfed has sufficient breast milk, the baby can be fed until six months old without additional water. Feeding water too early or too much will affect the baby's sucking of breast milk, reduce the amount of milk sucked, and affect the secretion of breast milk. Babies who are artificially fed, mixed fed, and over 6 months old need appropriate amount of water. It is best to feed water with a small spoon first, and then use a cup or bowl when the baby is a little older. Encourage the baby to do things by himself and exercise his ability to take care of himself.

2. Babies who have not added complementary foods: Generally speaking, as long as the baby's eating is normal, there is no need to add additional water, unless the weather is very hot and there is no air conditioning indoors, then a small amount of boiled water can be added.

Babies who are adding complementary foods: For babies after 6 months old, most of them have started to come into contact with complementary foods other than breast milk, and their sources of water intake are more abundant. Therefore, you can add a small amount of boiled water to your baby after eating or between meals. This can help your baby clean his mouth and is also beneficial to his dental health.

3. It is not advisable to drink a lot of water before meals, as it will dilute the gastric juice, which is not conducive to food digestion. It will also expand the stomach volume, increase the feeling of fullness in the stomach, and affect appetite. It is not advisable to drink a lot of water after a meal. The food in the stomach can easily be swollen by water. The volume of the food increases under the action of water, making it difficult to digest and causing discomfort to the baby.
