What should I do if my child has extra teeth?

If you have a baby at home, you will have to worry about a lot more things in your daily life. It is not just about keeping the child from getting sick. You also have to pay attention to the child's intellectual development, the formation of good habits, and at the same time pay attention to some minor problems of the child. For example, when it comes to children's tooth growth, many parents may be more concerned about whether their children have tooth decay problems, but few parents will pay attention to whether their children have too many teeth, because too many teeth are not good for children.

A normal person has 32 permanent teeth, including 8 incisors, 4 canines, 8 premolars and 12 molars. Any extra teeth that grow beyond this number are medically called "supernumerary teeth".

Supernumerary teeth vary greatly. They are generally cone-shaped, but can sometimes develop into other shapes, and may even be pointed like teeth with the same name. Supernumerary teeth are often found between the two central incisors.

The harm of supernumerary teeth is that if they grow in the dentition, they will occupy the position of normal teeth. Since normal teeth are squeezed out by the supernumerary teeth, they have to grow out from the side of the gums, resulting in disordered tooth arrangement. If supernumerary teeth grow outside the dentition, double teeth will be formed with gaps between the two teeth, causing food debris to be trapped and impacted, leading to inflammation of the gum tissue and even causing tooth decay.

Supernumerary teeth are teeth that should not exist in the first place, and can cause so many adverse consequences. Therefore, once supernumerary teeth occur, you should ask a doctor to identify and remove them in time.

However, there are still a few children whose supernumerary teeth have not been noticed in the early stages of their growth and whose occlusal relationship is normal, in which case it may be considered to retain the supernumerary teeth.

From this we can see that parents should pay attention to their children's dental problems. They should not only pay attention to whether their children's teeth are growing neatly, whether their children's teeth have caries problems, whether their children's teeth are falling out normally, but also pay attention to whether their children have too many teeth. If there are too many, it is best to find a dentist to pull them out.
