Are there any serious side effects of taking ceftriaxone for children?

Cephalosporin is a drug frequently used in clinical practice. It can quickly reduce inflammation and nip the disease in the bud. But everything has two sides. If you take cefuroxime, it will increase the body's immunity, which is not conducive to the normal development of the body's immune function in the future. Nowadays, it is not recommended to directly use anti-inflammatory drugs in clinical practice. So, are there any serious side effects of taking ceftriaxone for children?

First-generation cephalosporins: This type of drug was previously called cephalosporins. For example, cephalexin (cephalosporin IV), cefazolin (cephalosporin V, not oral), cefadroxil (cephalosporin VI), cefadroxil, cefaclor, etc. The dosage form suitable for children can be granules or dry suspension.

Cefaclor dry suspension is a first-generation cephalosporin. It comes in strawberry flavor and is easily available in major hospitals and pharmacies. It is more suitable for common bacterial infections in infants and young children.

Although cefaclor dry suspension belongs to the first-generation cephalosporin, its antibacterial spectrum is slightly wider than other first-generation cephalosporins. So why are other first-generation cephalosporins not recommended?

The reason is simple. Many hospitals and private pharmacies do not sell several other first-generation cephalosporins in dosages and forms suitable for children. If you buy it, you can also choose it.

Second-generation cephalosporins: This type of cephalosporin has a wider antibacterial spectrum than the first-generation cephalosporins, and can fight against bacteria that the first-generation cephalosporins cannot.

At present, the commonly used drugs for common infectious diseases in pediatrics are cefuroxime granules, dispersible tablets or chewable tablets, and cefuroxime axetil granules, dry suspension or dispersible tablets.

Third-generation cephalosporins: The overall strength of this type of cephalosporin is further improved, but some abilities are weaker than the first generation, and some abilities are stronger than the second generation. This shows that sometimes choosing a higher-grade cephalosporin may not be as effective as a lower-grade one.

For example, cefdinir dispersible tablets or granules, cefixime granules, dispersible tablets or dry suspension, and cefpodoxime axetil dry suspension or dispersible tablets are all third-generation cephalosporins.

Fourth-generation cephalosporins: This type of drug is an injectable, such as cefpirome and cefepime. It is only used by hospitalized patients, that is, those who are infected with severe drug-resistant bacteria and who cannot be cured by the first three generations. It will be used selectively.

Through the above content, I just want to tell mothers that they should start with the use of low-level antibiotics and not use cephalosporins indiscriminately, which can reduce the occurrence of bacterial resistance.
