How to correct stuttering in children?

Stuttering, also known as stammering, is a phenomenon in which pronunciation is suddenly interrupted and repeated. Stuttering in children is a common disease. Parents are often troubled by their children's stuttering. The main causes of children's stuttering are genetics, imitating the speech of other people who stutter, being nervous when speaking, receiving harsh criticism, and some children are good at using their left hand, but their parents force them to use their right hand, which can also cause children to stutter.

There are many ways to solve stuttering, which are introduced to you one by one below. First, when a child stutters, never scold him or her loudly. Instead, you should guide him or her patiently, remind him or her to speak slowly, do not criticize or punish him or her, ease his or her nervousness, and give him or her enough confidence and patience.

Second, provide language training for your baby. Be sure to practice pronunciation when the child's muscles are relaxed, let the baby slow down his or her speaking speed, prolong the speaking time, and repeat the training to enhance the child's confidence in speaking, reduce the fear of stuttering, and prevent the child from paying too much attention to the process of speaking. Third, they should be temporarily separated from other babies with stuttering to avoid mutual influence. Fourth, for a baby who is left-handed, do not force him to use his right hand. Fifth, children with stuttering should be treated normally, and should never be ridiculed or blamed. Otherwise, it will increase the obstacles in the children's needs and their inferiority complex, making them even less confident.

Sixth, parents are good teachers and friends to every child. They should pay attention to their way of speaking, speed, and tone, and set a good example for their children. Especially in important occasions, pay attention to your words and actions. When the child's speech gradually improves, more encouragement should be given to enhance the child's self-confidence.

It is not shameful for a child to stutter. It can be corrected with proper teaching. As parents, we should be more patient, believe in our children, believe in hope, and to love a child is to make them happy. Forcing children to do something they don’t like will only backfire. Therefore, love your children with your heart.
