Is phimosis serious in children?

Children’s physical health is the biggest concern for parents, because once a child develops symptoms of illness, parents will feel that their body and mind are seriously affected. The problem of phimosis in children is more serious because children are young and phimosis will affect their physical health. It is also more difficult to treat because children's phimosis is prone to viral infection. So is phimosis in children serious?

There are two main types of phimosis in children: congenital phimosis and acquired phimosis. Almost every normal male baby is prone to congenital phimosis. After the newborn is born, there will be adhesion between the foreskin and the glans penis. As the penis continues to develop, the adhesions are absorbed, which can cause the foreskin and glans penis to separate and retract. Two years after a child is born, the penis and glans penis will develop normally, and the foreskin will retract upward on its own to expose the glans penis. For most male babies, phimosis can disappear on its own, but for some, the foreskin opening is too small, which makes it impossible for the foreskin to retract backwards, thus hindering the development of the penis and glans, and then affecting the male urination.

When a patient develops phimosis, he or she needs manual treatment, which is helpful for infant boys. When parents are cleaning the baby's vulva, they can flip the foreskin as well. Do not use too much force, but be gentle. Do not be impatient and anxious to flip the foreskin up all at once. It needs to be done step by step, gradually increasing the degree of foreskin flipping up every day until the urethral opening and glans penis are exposed. After each flipping of the foreskin, the foreskin should be immediately restored to prevent phimosis.

That’s all we should do about phimosis in children. When a child has phimosis, it must be taken seriously. Only by actively treating the child’s phimosis problem can we avoid affecting the growth and development of the boy’s penis. At the same time, parents should also observe more abnormal conditions related to phimosis in their children, do not deal with them on their own, and go to the hospital to find the relevant attending physician in time to solve the problem, which will help the treatment of the disease.
