What is the cause of the rash after the baby has a low fever?

Sometimes the baby at home will develop a rash after a low fever, and the mother doesn’t know what’s going on. You cannot relax about the baby’s condition. It is necessary to understand the various baby symptoms. Children are very fragile and often get various diseases, so mothers must understand various diseases for the health of their babies.

Roseola infantum is caused by human herpesvirus type 6. It is a common acute febrile disease in infants and young children and is not highly contagious. Generally, children under 2 years old are more susceptible to infection and disease, especially babies under 1 year old. The characteristic of the disease is that the fever suddenly subsides after 3 to 5 days of fever, and a rose-red maculopapular rash appears on the body. Therefore, it has a nice name: infantile roseola, which is also called milk rash in traditional Chinese medicine. This disease can occur in all seasons, but winter and spring are the peak seasons. After getting sick, people generally gain lasting immunity and rarely get sick a second time.

The most typical symptoms of roseola infantum are: acute onset, high fever reaching 39-40℃, which lasts for 3-5 days and then drops suddenly, and the spirit also improves. Its biggest feature is that the rash appears after the fever subsides. The rash of infantile exanthema is irregular and appears as small rose spots, which may also merge into one. The rash will disappear if pressed with the hand. The rash first appears on the neck and trunk, and quickly spreads throughout the body, especially on the waist and buttocks. The rash will disappear within 1 to 2 days without leaving any pigmentation spots. Before the rash appears, children will have respiratory or digestive tract symptoms, such as pharyngitis and diarrhea. At the same time, the surrounding lymph nodes will generally enlarge, with the occipital lymph nodes being the most common. They are as big as peas and not tender.

When a baby has roseola, the key is to take good care of the baby during the fever and control the baby's body temperature below 38.5, otherwise the high fever will easily harm the baby's body.
