Pharyngeal herpes in children

Pharyngeal herpes in children

Herpetic pharyngitis in children is an oral disease caused by viral infection. It can cause symptoms such as pneumonia and rhinitis in children, seriously affecting the health of the child's throat. Therefore, when patients develop herpetic pharyngitis, they should pay attention to oral hygiene, disinfect the blisters in the mouth, apply medication, and finally pay attention to their diet and indoor ventilation to reduce oral infection again.

1. Herpetic pharyngitis in children is caused by Coxsackie group A virus. It usually occurs in summer and autumn and is a relatively common viral pharyngitis. Acute pneumonia, rhinitis, influenza and malaria often occur. There was even an epidemic of meningitis. However, herpangina can also occur alone.

2. When patients suffer from herpetic pharyngitis, they usually do not have systemic symptoms, but experience pain in the throat that affects swallowing. When infants and young children develop this disease, they usually cry and become restless during feeding. The submandibular lymph nodes are swollen and painful, accompanied by fever. Herpes will appear when examining the pharynx, and most of these herpes are on the soft palate, palatoglossal arch and uvula.

3. Small blisters will appear at the beginning and then burst quickly, so when the doctor sees you, you usually won’t see herpes, but instead you will see some ulcers. There is a pale yellow or white pseudomembrane on the surface, and there is bright red congestion around it.

1. General treatment

Inform the parents of the child about the self-limitation of the disease and the purpose of treatment to prevent cross infection and complications. Pay attention to rest, ventilate the room, drink plenty of water, eat liquid food, supplement vitamins, and perform nebulizer inhalation treatment, etc.

2. Anti-infection treatment

(1) Antiviral drugs that can be tried include ribavirin (virazole), which can be taken orally or intravenously, or ribavirin aerosol can be sprayed locally in the mouth. Some Chinese herbal preparations such as Shuanghuanglian, Isatis root, Qingyan Chongji and other heat-clearing and detoxifying medicines also have certain antiviral effects.

(2) Antimicrobial drugs: This disease is a viral infection and generally no antibiotics are used.

3. Symptomatic treatment

(1) For high fever, you can take acetaminophen or ibuprofen orally, or use physical cooling methods such as cold compresses or warm baths.

(2) Patients with febrile convulsions can be given sedatives and anticonvulsants.

(3) For sore throat, you can take throat lozenges sublingually.
