9 month old baby has viral fever

The change of seasons and the sudden drop in temperature will allow many viruses to invade the human body. The baby's body resistance is relatively weak, and it is easy to catch a cold and fever. After most babies have a cold and fever, parents are very anxious and sometimes feel they don't know where to start. In fact, if a 9-month-old baby has a viral fever, it is best for parents to take the child to the hospital for treatment and take medicine under the doctor's guidance.

What should I do if my 9-month-old baby has a viral fever?

Generally, fever caused by viral infection will last longer, possibly a week or even longer. Viral infections are self-limiting diseases, which means they heal on their own without treatment. The purpose of treatment is only to improve symptoms, make the baby feel more comfortable, and spend a week or so smoothly, but it cannot shorten the course of the disease. Some babies have repeated fevers because the viral infection process has not yet passed. Parents should not be anxious but observe the baby's condition. As long as no complications occur, there is no problem.

If the baby's body temperature is too high, you can use some physical methods to cool it down, such as a warm water bath, that is, wiping the whole body with a warm water towel. Or you can use a cooling patch, which is a new product in recent years. Stick it on the baby's forehead and the baby's head will feel more comfortable. Ice packs are also a good method, and ice packs can be used repeatedly. Since infants and young children have a high water content in their bodies, they are very susceptible to dehydration. Therefore, parents must feed their infants and young children more boiled water. If the baby's temperature is still over 38.5℃ after physical cooling treatment, you should use medicine to reduce the fever. Check the dosage when using it and do not overdose. When a baby is infected with a virus and has a fever, parents should avoid taking the baby to public places and disinfect tableware and toys frequently. At the same time, you should pay attention to keeping warm and avoid catching cold, which may cause respiratory and digestive tract diseases and reduce the body's resistance. When the weather turns cold, you should be cautious when eating raw or cold food, and it is best to eat fruit half an hour after a meal. In order to reduce the burden on the digestive tract, the diet should be mainly composed of starchy foods, such as millet porridge, rice porridge, and paste. For babies with poor physical constitution, physical therapy methods such as massage can increase the body's tolerance and shorten the course of the disease.

Dietary considerations for children with fever

1. Young children with fever can eat normally, but if the fever causes the child to have a poor appetite, do not force the child to eat.

2. Young children with fever need to drink plenty of water. However, you should avoid giving your children too many sweetened drinks (including fruit juice). You can mix fruit juice with water in a 1:1 ratio and give it to your child. Popsicles and jelly are also good choices (be careful of choking when giving jelly to young children)

3. Sick children are more accepting of bland foods, including soft, non-spicy, and low-fiber foods. Such as bread, biscuits, noodles, porridge and so on.

Fever care

1. Do not wrap your child with a blanket or too many clothes, even if the child has symptoms of chills.

Because wrapping yourself in clothing will prevent your body temperature from dropping or cause it to rise further. Keep the indoor temperature at a suitable level (in hot and humid weather, use a fan to speed up air circulation, but do not blow it towards people). Just cover your child with a light blanket when he or she sleeps at night.

2. Precautions for taking drugs to reduce fever

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin) are commonly used antipyretics for infants and young children. Sometimes doctors will recommend that parents alternate between two fever-reducing medicines.
