What should I do if my child has a fever at night?

Every child is a person who makes parents worry. Even if the child is very well-behaved and sensible, parents will still worry about them. When a child is sick, that is often when parents worry the most. Children have relatively low immunity and are prone to illness. They also have fevers at night, catching their parents off guard. Well, today, I will teach parents a few tips on what to do when a child has a fever at night.

Most children have fever at night or in the middle of the night, but as long as you observe carefully, you will find that there will be certain signs during the day or at least in the afternoon. As the saying goes, children will not pretend to be sick. As long as there is nothing serious, the child will appear very lively. This is easily ignored by parents, but at night, after the child falls asleep, the body temperature will rise under the quilt. According to doctors' statistics, high fever accounts for about 80% of children's nighttime emergencies, and colds are the most common disease causing fever.

Experts recommend that the following care measures be taken for children who suddenly develop a high fever at night (axillary temperature ≥ 39°C): (1) Homes with air conditioning can maintain the room temperature at 21°C-24°C; let the child rest in bed, open the blanket or loosen the clothes to expose the skin; (2) Encourage the child to drink plenty of cool boiled water or clean liquids, at least 300 ml a night; (3) Take antipyretics, such as Tylenol or Thorne oral solution in appropriate amounts, and take it again every 4-6 hours if necessary. Measure the body temperature every 1-2 hours until the temperature drops to the normal range.

(4) If antipyretic drugs are not effective, physical cooling can be used. Give your child a warm bath (water temperature 32℃-34℃) to help dissipate heat. It should be pointed out that regardless of whether the fever has subsided, parents should take their children to the hospital for treatment the next day. In addition, a family of three must always have antipyretic and cold medicines on hand.

The above are the measures parents should take when their children have a fever at night. When a child has a cold, you can massage him with Fengyoujing, then cover him with a quilt to let the sweat come out. He should drink plenty of water and pay attention to eating more light foods. He should actively cooperate with the doctor.
