What should I do if my child hits his head on the ground?

Children like playing more in their daily lives. If children show adverse symptoms due to playing, mothers should pay attention to their children in time. If a child's head hits the ground, it will have a certain impact on the child's health. Because hitting the head on the ground can cause pain at the very least and may affect the child's later development at worst, we can diagnose the child's condition based on the symptoms described below.

● After falling, the baby started crying immediately, and his cry was loud and powerful. After crying for a while, about ten minutes, his complexion improved and he was in good spirits. There was no abnormal behavior and he started playing, drinking water and feeding normally again. In this case, the possibility of brain injury in the baby is almost zero. There is no need to take the baby to the hospital. You can continue to observe the baby's changes at home.

● During the observation process, the baby shows signs of not wanting to eat, being in poor spirits, being sleepy (sleepier than usual, not energetic when awake, or falling asleep again after waking up), not as quiet as before the injury, or being too quiet. If any of the above situations occur, you should see a doctor.

● If vomiting occurs during the observation process, see a doctor immediately.

● During the observation process, if you develop a fever, you should see a doctor.

● If there is bleeding on the head after falling, you should go to the hospital for treatment.

● There is just a bump on the head, no visible injury on the skin and no abnormal symptoms, so there is no need to see a doctor.

● Do not rub the lump on your baby’s head (some parents may do this, thinking that rubbing can not only relieve the baby’s pain, but also make the lump smaller and remove the blood stasis. This is a wrong approach).

● If there is a lump on the head, regardless of whether there is skin damage or not, do not apply hot compress. If the scalp is not damaged, you can apply cold compress appropriately.

● If the skin is abraded, you can use disinfectant (hydrogen peroxide), alcohol, or iodine to disinfect it, and then apply a little mercurochrome. But don't bandage it. If the wound is large, deep, or bleeding profusely, you should go to the hospital.

● Regardless of any abnormalities or visible injuries, any head injury must be carefully observed for 48 hours. If any abnormality occurs, see a doctor immediately.

If a child encounters the above situation in life, the symptoms at the back of the head should be carefully examined and not ignored. It is likely that this will affect the brain development of the child. If the patient's symptoms become increasingly obvious, the mother should take the patient to the hospital for appropriate examinations in time. Only by cooperating with the doctor's treatment can the head disease be alleviated.
