What should I do if my child has a fever of 45 degrees?

Fever is a common condition for everyone. Fever is caused by a chemical reaction when the body's defense system is defending against bacteria. However, if you do not pay attention to it in time, it will still be very harmful to the human body, especially for some infants and young children. If the fever is high, it will be very dangerous. What should we do?

The normal body temperature of a baby is between 36.5 degrees and 37.5 degrees. If you think your baby has a fever, the first thing you should do is to take his temperature! Babies are prone to crying when they have a fever. Using a thermometer with a pacifier is the easiest way to measure a baby's temperature, and it is also the most comfortable way for the baby.

Depending on the baby's condition, mothers can choose to use rectal temperature measurement, which is more accurate. Turn on the thermometer, lubricate the tip with water-soluble paste, and spread your baby's buttocks apart with one hand. Use your other hand to gently slide the tip of the thermometer no more than 12 mm into the rectum.

If the baby's temperature is high, the mother should make an objective assessment first. For example, did the baby just take a hot bath? Or is the weather too hot or the baby is wearing too many clothes? The indoor ventilation is poor, etc. The mother can first take off the baby's outer clothes and open the doors and windows to keep ventilation.

Generally speaking, if the baby's body temperature does not exceed 38.5 degrees, we do not recommend taking antipyretics. You can feed the baby more water to increase the baby's urine volume and promote the excretion of toxins in the baby's body. At the same time, wiping the whole body with a warm water towel is also a good way to cool down, which is suitable for all babies with fever. Each wiping time should be more than 10 minutes. The key areas to wipe are the skin wrinkles, such as the neck, armpits, elbows, groin, etc.

If a child has a very high fever, it is recommended that you give her some physical cooling in time, especially paying attention to the forehead. You can use some fever-reducing patches or a wet towel. If necessary, you should go to the hospital for examination and treatment to avoid bacterial infection from becoming more and more serious, which is very scary.
