What causes acute urticaria in children?

Children's immune systems are at a critical stage of development, so they may easily develop abnormal symptoms due to imperfections, and may even develop skin diseases such as acute urticaria. When parents encounter this situation, they are usually very anxious, but they don’t know what caused it. Next, I will explain the possible predisposing factors in detail.

1. Food factors. The most common foods are fish, shrimp, crab and eggs. Next are meat and certain plant foods, such as strawberries, cocoa and tomatoes. In addition, spoiled food decomposes into polypeptides, and alkaline polypeptides are histamine releasers. Protein foods are absorbed in the form of peptones or polypeptides before being completely digested, which can cause urticaria. This is more common in children and may also be due to the different permeability of the digestive tract mucosa in children and adults. In addition, coloring, flavoring, preservatives, and natural or synthetic substances added to food can also cause urticaria.

2. Infection. Various infectious factors can cause this disease. The most common ones are viruses that cause upper respiratory tract infections and Staphylococcus aureus, followed by hepatitis, infectious mononucleosis and coxsackievirus; parasitic infections such as ascariasis, hookworms, schistosomiasis, filariasis, amoeba and malarial parasites; bacterial infections such as acute tonsillitis, alveolar abscess, sinusitis, impetigo, sepsis, etc.

3. Medicine. There are many things that can cause this disease. Penicillin, sulfonamides, furazolidone, serum vaccines, etc. often cause urticaria through immune mechanisms. Drugs such as aspirin, morphine, atropine, and vitamin B1 are histamine releasers that can directly cause mast cells to release histamine and trigger urticaria.

4. Physical factors. Such as cold, heat, sunlight, friction and pressure can cause it. In addition, gastrointestinal diseases, metabolic disorders, endocrine disorders and mental factors can also cause it.

To sum up, children suffer from acute urticaria due to contact with allergens. Therefore, parents of sick children must go to the pediatric clinic in time to find out the detailed cause of the disease. This will help them pay attention to keeping a safe distance from allergens in the future and greatly reduce the possibility of disease.
