Can children take medicine for mumps? What kind of treatment is needed?

Mumps in children is more serious because children have low body resistance and may develop complications after suffering from mumps. Mumps in children may invade the respiratory tract and cause respiratory infections. The patient's breath, saliva, and even secretions may be transmitted after contact with others. Once mumps occurs, the child must be isolated and take medication for 2-3 weeks and continue to observe the body.

Do children take medicine for mumps?

Mumps is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by the mumps virus invading the parotid gland. The patient is the source of infection, and inhalation of droplets is the main route of transmission. The disease occurs 2-3 weeks after contact with the patient.

The main symptom of mumps is swelling under one or both earlobes. The swollen parotid gland is often hemispherical, with unclear edges centered on the earlobe. The surface is hot and has angular pain, and local pain is felt when opening the mouth or chewing. Parotid gland swelling occurs at 1-

The swelling is most obvious on the 3rd day and then gradually subsides. The swelling completely disappears in about 2 weeks. In the first 3-5 days of the disease, there may be systemic symptoms such as fever, fatigue, and unwillingness to eat.

Once mumps is discovered, the child should be isolated immediately and rest in bed. The food should be soft and easy to digest, and avoid spicy and sour foods. Because these foods can easily stimulate the secretion of salivary glands, causing local pain to increase. Drink more boiled water and keep your mouth clean. You can also rinse your mouth with compound borax solution. The swollen area can be applied with Chinese medicine, take 15 grams of Indigo, or 15 grams of the Chinese patent medicine Ruyi Jinhuangsan, and mix it with water. External application can reduce local pain and help reduce swelling. You can also take Isatis root granules at the same time.

Once a child has mumps, he or she should be isolated until the swelling of the parotid gland has completely subsided before going to daycare or school to avoid infecting other children. Since mumps can easily spread in childcare institutions, if a child is found with mumps, morning check-ups should be strengthened. Children who have had contact with suspected children should be observed for 21 days and take isatis root granules orally for preventive treatment. Usually for 3-5 consecutive days. One thing to note is that immunoglobulin has no preventive effect on mumps.

Mumps is divided into two types: purulent and viral.

Mumps is caused by bacterial infection, mainly staphylococci. Common causes are

1. Hyposecretion of the parotid gland, which is common in patients with acute infectious diseases and debilitated patients;

2. The parotid duct orifice is blocked;

3. Inflammation of the tissue adjacent to the parotid gland;

Symptoms include fever, leukocytosis, local redness, swelling, pain and heat in the parotid gland. When the lesion enters the purulent stage, pus can be seen flowing out of the duct opening when the parotid gland is squeezed.

The viral type is usually called mumps, which often occurs in children or adolescents with a history of infectious contact. It can be bilateral or unilaterally affected. The white blood cell count not only does not increase but decreases or is normal. The local symptoms are similar to those of the purulent type, but there is no tendency to suppuration.

Treatment : In the early stage of acute suppurative mumps, the main treatment is drug treatment, antibiotics, and the traditional Chinese medicine Jingfang Baidu Powder and Wuwei Xiaodu Yin; at the same time, the method of stimulating secretion is used to keep saliva secretion unobstructed. If the disease lasts for more than a week and enters the suppurative stage, an incision and drainage operation should be performed.

There is no specific treatment for viral mumps. It can be treated with the aforementioned Chinese medicine. If there is a concurrent bacterial infection, antibiotics can be used.
