What to do if your child is developing slowly

What to do if your child is developing slowly

Everyone develops at a different time. Although everyone has reached the age of development, some will develop early and some will develop slowly. This is closely related to their eating habits and psychology. A common phenomenon of developmental delay is short stature, which is sometimes accompanied by intellectual disabilities. Over time, the psychological pressure on these children will become greater and greater. But what should we do if our children are developing slowly?

1. Hypothyroidism. Children affected by this condition are short, sometimes with disproportionate limbs, slow tooth development, and intellectual disabilities. Adolescents may also experience hoarseness, seldom talk, facial edema, enlarged thyroid gland, hair loss, dry skin, slow pulse, weight gain, and drowsiness. If these symptoms occur, a thyroid function test can confirm the diagnosis.

2. Pituitary dwarfism. Children may have normal height and weight at birth, but their body growth will be retarded after a few months, and they will be significantly different from children of the same age at 2 to 3 years old. The growth rate is extremely slow, but the body shape is generally symmetrical. The height in adulthood does not exceed 130 cm, the intelligence is normal, the sexual organs are underdeveloped, and secondary sexual characteristics are absent.

3. Developmental delay is one of the most common diseases in children's growth and development. It is mainly manifested in that the development of use, language, height, etc. is slower or the order is abnormal compared with children of the same age, which seriously affects the child's life and study, and even causes lifelong regrets for the child. Therefore, accurate diagnosis and effective treatment are crucial for children with developmental delay.

Developmental delay in children will have a great impact on the child's life, so parents must pay more attention to it. When it is found that the child is much more developmentally delayed than his peers, it is necessary to go to the hospital for relevant examinations in time. What should we do if the child is slow in development? Doctors suggest that only by finding the cause can targeted remedies be taken.
