What should I do if my child has meningitis?

Having meningitis is troublesome enough, and it is even more troublesome when a child gets it, after all, children are more vulnerable than adults. So what are the symptoms of meningitis in children? When parents encounter this kind of problem, they are usually at a loss. Some parents even do not take the symptoms shown by their children seriously. So what is the treatment for children's meningitis?

Symptoms of meningitis in children:

1. When suffering from meningitis, purulent exudate can easily block narrow channels or cause adhesions, causing cerebrospinal circulation disorders and producing hydrocephalus. It is common in patients who are treated improperly or too late, especially in newborns and infants. Adhesive arachnoiditis often occurs in the foramen magnum, which can obstruct the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid; or adhesions formed by ventricular meningitis are common causes of obstructive hydrocephalus.

2. In addition to water and electrolyte disorders caused by vomiting, infrequent eating, etc., cerebral hyponatremia may also occur, with symptoms such as insomnia, convulsions, coma, edema, general weakness, low muscle tone in the limbs, and oliguria. Its occurrence mechanism is related to the infection affecting the posterior pituitary gland, causing excessive secretion of antidiuretic hormone and leading to water retention.

3. Due to brain parenchymal damage and adhesion, cranial nerves may be affected or limb paralysis may occur. Brain abscess, intracranial arteritis and secondary epilepsy may also occur. Fulminant meningococcal disease may be accompanied by DIC and shock. In addition, otitis media, pneumonia, and arthritis may occasionally occur.

Meningitis generally has the following obvious symptoms: fever, stiff neck, headache, and sensitivity to light.

Of course, some of the symptoms of meningitis listed above may be difficult to spot in a young baby. You may just notice that your baby is fussy, sleepy, or refuses to eat. He may vomit or have diarrhea, have cold hands and feet, or develop a rash or skin patches on part of his body that turn white or blue. You may also notice that your baby's anterior fontanelle (the soft area on the top of his head) is bulging or hardening. The baby may also experience symptoms such as difficulty breathing and convulsions

How to treat it?

1. When a child is sick, he or she will generally have a high fever. When the child's temperature rises or he or she has chills, you must pay attention to keeping the child warm. When giving the child antipyretics, you must give the child plenty of water. After the fever subsides, you must help the child change his or her sweat-soaked clothes in time.

2 During the treatment period, your baby should be fed low-fat, high-fiber, nutritious foods, such as potatoes, yams, carrots, rapeseed, celery, onions, cauliflower, winter melon, cucumber, eggplant, barley, corn, buckwheat noodles, barley noodles, sorghum rice, and black rice. Wait for the baby to eat more.

3. Avoid eating sugar and processed foods, such as all kinds of high-sugar foods, candies, and all kinds of pickled foods. Do not let your children eat them.

Whether a child is healthy or not is not only related to the child’s own physical constitution, but also has a lot to do with the parenting style of his parents. Therefore, parents need to pay enough attention to whether their children are healthy. We should also pay attention to the treatment methods of children's diseases and never be careless.
