Respiratory tract infection is a very common pediatric disease. When a child coughs, sneezes, or has a sore throat, parents should be alert, as the child may have a respiratory tract infection. Children's respiratory tract infections are closely related to the weather and their physical constitution, so parents must be very familiar with the symptoms of the disease. So what are the symptoms of respiratory tract infections in children? Mild cases: only nasal symptoms, such as clear runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing, etc., may also occur with tearing, mild cough or throat discomfort, and can heal naturally within 3 to 4 days. If the infection involves the nasopharynx, there is often fever, sore throat, tonsillitis, and congestion and hyperplasia of the lymphatic tissue on the posterior pharyngeal wall, and sometimes mild enlargement of the lymph nodes. Fever can last from 2 to 3 days to about 1 week. Severe cases: Body temperature can reach 39-40℃ or higher, accompanied by chills, headache, general weakness, loss of appetite, disturbed sleep, etc., and frequent coughing may be caused by nasopharyngeal secretions. When the pharynx becomes slightly red and blisters and ulcers occur, it is called herpetic pharyngitis. Sometimes the redness and swelling obviously spread to the tonsils, follicular purulent exudate appears, sore throat and systemic symptoms worsen, and nasopharyngeal secretions change from thin to thick. The submandibular lymph nodes were significantly enlarged and tender. If the inflammation spreads to the sinuses, middle ear or trachea, corresponding symptoms will occur and the systemic symptoms will also be more serious. Pay attention to high fever convulsions and acute abdominal pain, and make differential diagnosis with other diseases. Febrile convulsions caused by acute upper respiratory tract infection are more common in infants and young children, occur within 1 day after onset, and rarely recur. Acute abdominal pain is sometimes severe, mostly around the umbilicus, without tenderness, appears early, is mostly temporary, and may be related to hyperperistalsis. The above are the symptoms of respiratory tract infections in children. Parents must pay attention to their children's diet and warmth, and strengthen their children's physique and immunity in all aspects. The editor wishes that all babies can get rid of the disease and recover their health as soon as possible. |
