Is it normal for a child to have a temperature of 37.2?

Measuring body temperature is the easiest way for us to judge whether our body is healthy, because once a person is sick, his body temperature will often rise or fall to varying degrees. Compared with adults, children's body temperature can often better reflect their physical condition, and their body temperature is an important indicator for parents to judge their children's physical health. So, what is the normal body temperature for children? Is it normal for a child to have a body temperature of 37.2 degrees?

The normal basal body temperature of children is 36.9℃~37.5℃. Generally, when the body temperature exceeds the basal body temperature by more than 1°C, it is considered a fever. Among them, low fever refers to body temperature fluctuating around 38°C, and high fever refers to body temperature above 39°C. Continuous fever for more than two weeks is called long-term fever.

The above-mentioned basal body temperature refers to the rectal temperature, which is measured from the anus. Generally, the oral temperature is 0.3℃~0.5℃ lower than the rectal temperature, and the axillary temperature is 0.3℃~0.5℃ lower than the oral temperature.

Children's body temperature is slightly higher than that of adults. The average body temperature of children is 36.6℃ in the morning and 36.9℃ in the afternoon. It was found that some children had an axillary temperature above 37℃, especially in summer, accounting for about 50%. After observing a portion of children whose temperatures were above 37°C, no disease was found during long-term follow-up. So anything below 37.5 is normal.

The normal body temperature of children varies from individual to individual and fluctuates within a certain range with changes in external environmental factors. Generally, the lowest body temperature is between 2 and 6 in the morning and the highest is between 5 and 7 in the afternoon within 24 hours. The armpit temperature is generally 36-37℃. The value measured by oral thermometer is slightly higher, and the value measured by rectal thermometer is even higher.

If the child's body temperature reaches 37.2 degrees, mothers can undress the baby and rub the whole body with a warm water (37℃) towel. This can dilate the blood vessels in the baby's skin and dissipate the body heat. In addition, when water vapor evaporates from the body surface, it will also absorb body heat.

Mothers can also give their babies plenty of water to help them sweat and prevent dehydration. Because water has the function of regulating temperature, it can lower body temperature and replenish water lost in the baby's body.
