What to do with myopia in primary school students

In the early years, there were not many people with myopia. We thought wearing glasses was a sign of intelligence, proving that someone had read a lot of books. But now it is completely different. Wearing glasses just means that you are nearsighted, which may be due to reading too much, playing too many games, or using the phone too much. Nowadays, more than half of the students in a class wear glasses, even many elementary school students wear glasses. So what should we do if primary school students are nearsighted?

When a child shows symptoms of myopia, the first thing to do is to determine whether the child has true myopia or false myopia. The best way to distinguish true from false myopia is to go to a professional hospital for mydriasis refraction.

If it is confirmed that it is just pseudomyopia, then as long as you supervise the child to use his eyes correctly, get proper rest and treatment, he can restore normal vision.

If a child is diagnosed with true myopia and the myopia is above 100 degrees, he or she will have to wear glasses to correct his or her vision. Once the glasses are put on, they cannot be taken off easily. Keep the eyes in a emmetropia state to relieve vision.

Ophthalmologists suggest that children with myopia can improve their vision by fitting them with orthokeratology lenses. Orthokeratology lenses are hard contact lenses with multi-curved inverted geometry designed and processed through digital precision calculations. They are mainly used to curb the further lengthening of the eye axis in adolescents, thereby controlling and treating the development of myopia in adolescents.

How to treat pseudomyopia

1. Eye movement method

As the head rotates up, down, left, and right, the eyeballs move with it.

2. Blinking method

Tilt your head back and blink frequently to get the blood flowing. When your eyes are slightly tired, just blink 2-3 times.

3. Alternating hot and cold compresses

Soak one towel in hot water that is slightly hotter than bath water, and soak another towel in cold water with ice cubes. Place the hot towel on your eyes for about five minutes, and then place the cold towel on your eyes for five minutes.

4. Eye gymnastics

Point your middle finger between the eye sockets and the bridge of the nose, and rub your face back and forth with your palm for five minutes. Then slowly move your neck left and right, then close your eyes, and tap the back of your neck ten times with your fists.

5. Look far and near

Look into the distance for three minutes, then look at your palms for 1-2 minutes, and then look into the distance again. By switching between near and far views several times, you can effectively eliminate eyestrain.

6. Combine work and rest to prevent eye diseases

Avoid operating the computer or reading for long periods of time. Be careful not to wait until you feel your eyes tired to take a break. Instead, take a 10-15 minute break every hour or so. During the break, look at the green trees or distant scenery outside the window, or do eye exercises to fully relax your eyes.
