Improper treatment of convulsions in children can be fatal!

Nowadays, careful parents will find that many children suddenly have convulsions when playing games or watching TV. This situation may happen frequently or occasionally. It is an abnormal phenomenon. It is necessary to consider whether the child has a neurological disease or a functional disorder. The specific factors need to be prevented by measures in the early stage.

Seizures themselves are not necessarily fatal, so you should pay more attention to the cause of the seizure and check whether the patient has any medical disease warning cards or other injuries.

Convulsions in children are mostly caused by high fever, which is the most common cause. In addition, hypocalcemia, hypoglycemia, epilepsy, meningitis, encephalitis and bacterial dysentery can also cause convulsions.

If a child is found to be convulsing, parents should send the child to the hospital in time. On the way, parents should use some emergency treatment methods to avoid accidents.

1. Wrap gauze or a handkerchief around chopsticks or a small spoon, and insert it between the child's upper and lower teeth to prevent the tongue from being bitten. If the teeth are clenched tightly, do not pry them open forcibly. Instead, use chopsticks to insert them from both sides of the teeth.

2. Keep the airways open. Unbutton the child's collar, loosen the belt, let the child lie flat with the head tilted to one side to prevent vomitus from being inhaled into the respiratory tract and causing suffocation.

3. Acupuncture at the Ren Zhong point or pressing the Ren Zhong point with fingers can sometimes have a pain-relieving effect.

4. When a child has convulsions due to high fever, he or she should be allowed to sleep in a cool place, undressed, and a towel soaked in cold water should be placed on the forehead, armpits, and large blood vessels in the groin to accelerate the body's heat dissipation and promote the reduction of body temperature.
