What is the reason for a four-month-old baby to have a fever and diarrhea?

Some newborns will have loose watery stools. The baby's stools are watery and particularly smelly, and the frequency of diarrhea is relatively frequent. Parents want to feed the mother more, worried that the child will be hungry, but they are also afraid that if they feed the child too much, the diarrhea will become more serious. Sometimes the baby's diarrhea is accompanied by symptoms of fever, which makes parents even more anxious. So what is the reason for diarrhea in babies?

The reason is that newborns have poor immune function, especially intestinal immunity. When the intestines are infected, they are unable to weaken and neutralize the virulence of bacteria. In addition, the fetus grows in a bacteria-free greenhouse environment in the uterus, and immediately after birth it grows in an environment contaminated by numerous bacteria and viruses. Its resistance is too weak, and its digestive function and regulatory functions of various systems are also relatively poor. Therefore, newborns are prone to digestive dysfunction and infectious diarrhea.

Diarrhea caused by different pathogens is treated differently. The principles of diet and nutritional supplementation are the same as those for diarrhea in older children. Newborns should not drink too much milk when they first start to have loose stools. If breast milk is insufficient, you can add diluted milk (1 part water to 1 part milk). Do not rush and increase the amount of milk too quickly. Reduce the gastrointestinal burden, take some light salt water, vitamin C, and take gastric enzyme mixture and epididymide orally to help restore digestive function. Different types of diarrhea use different vitamins, such as some berberine, furazolidone, polymyxin, etc. If the diarrhea is caused by a virus, parents do not need to give children anti-inflammatory drugs.

The method of treating diarrhea introduced above is effective for babies whose diarrhea is not particularly severe. If the child has no improvement after a period of treatment according to the above method, and the diarrhea occurs as many as a dozen times a day, then you should go to a pediatric hospital for treatment to avoid delaying the child's condition.
