What should we do if children have intestinal dysfunction?

Intestinal dysfunction is a very common phenomenon, especially among today's white-collar workers, who are under great work pressure and have irregular meal times, which can easily induce gastrointestinal diseases. Although the incidence of gastrointestinal diseases is relatively high among adults, children may also suffer from intestinal dysfunction. What should we do when children have intestinal disorders? Below we will briefly introduce the countermeasures.

1. Psychotherapy is effective for 2/3 of patients. The key to treating gastrointestinal functional diseases is to remove psychological barriers and adjust organ functions. If a patient suspects or worries that he or she has a certain disease, the doctor will conduct targeted examinations to dispel doubts and stabilize emotions, which in itself is also a treatment method.

(ii) Supportive therapy: Unless the patient's general condition is very poor, bed rest is generally not required. A regular life and appropriate physical activity can enhance physical fitness and accelerate the recovery of nerve function. Patients with anorexia nervosa accompanied by severe malnutrition and diarrhea caused by nasogastric tube feeding require intravenous nutrition. High-fiber foods can relieve symptoms in IBS patients.

(III) Drug treatment: Short-term administration of tricyclic antidepressants is useful for patients with obvious psychiatric symptoms. For IBS patients with spasmodic abdominal pain, the anticholinergic drug dicyclomine (dicycomine 10-20 mg, 3-4 times/d) can relieve postprandial abdominal pain and urge to defecate.

4. Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment

1. If there are no other symptoms except vomiting in case of neurogenic vomiting, Xiaobanxia Huoling Decoction can be used with modifications to stop vomiting, which is effective for patients with mild symptoms.

2. Aerophagia can be treated with modified Xuanfu Daizhe Decoction.

3. If irritable bowel syndrome is accompanied by abdominal pain and diarrhea, fullness and tightness in the ribs and a stringy pulse, it is a sign of liver and spleen disharmony, and the prescription for pain and diarrhea can be used with modifications. If you have abdominal rumbling and diarrhea, cold abdomen and limbs, pale tongue and thin and stringy pulse before dawn every day, it is a sign of spleen and kidney yang deficiency, and can be treated with Fuzi Lizhong Decoction combined with Si Shen Wan with modifications.

5. Other treatments

Acupuncture, physical therapy, etc. are sometimes effective and can be used according to specific circumstances.

The article introduces some treatments for intestinal disorders, which are not only suitable for children but also for adults. There are many reasons for intestinal dysfunction, the most important of which is irregular diet, so you should eat on time, eat more easily digestible foods, and eat less hard and indigestible foods.
